New Sandy Hook Spa Helps Clients Look Good And Feel Good
By Steve Bigham
When Lisa Dismont opened Envisage Skincare & Makeup Boutique in Sandy Hook last month, the small town girl from South Dakota was fulfilling a lifelong dream. Now that her business is up and running, Newtownâs newest beautician invites residents to experience her unique skin care services.
Nestled in a small shop at 117A Church Hill Road, Envisage is less than a stoneâs throw away from the scenic Pootatuck River, which adds to the soothing atmosphere that Ms Dismont has created. In French, âenvisageâ means âto envisionâ and Ms Dismont requests that her clients envision a warm atmosphere where they can relax while receiving the utmost in personalized attention.
âMy customers can always expect good service. They will feel special when they come in,â said Ms Dismont, who offers a wide array of different beauty and wellness services.
At Envisage, customers can choose different treatments from a complete menu of services. Thereâs the âPrima Donnaâ facial, a European facial that combines relaxation and an effective skin care treatment that includes facial massage and pressure point therapy. Or, if itâs a massage youâre looking for, try the âZen Shiatsu,â a Japanese technique that will loosen up even the most tense people. This finer pressure treatment involves stretching, holding, and leaning body weight into various parts of the recipientâs body to improve energy flow, blood circulation, flexibility, and posture. Then there is the aromatherapy, which uses custom-blended oils.
âSome would say itâs almost intoxicating,â Ms Dismont says.
At Envisage, customers leave feeling a little bit special. They have just been to a professional yet unpretentious spa where tranquility and comfort are the house specials. And unlike some of the larger spa âfactories,â Evisage offers a low-key approach.
âIf Iâm going to pay good money, I want to walk out saying, âwow, that was terrific,ââ Ms Dismont said.
Growing up in rural America, the Envisage owner had dreams of becoming a model/make-up artist.
âI always liked making people look good,â she said. âIâd go in to the local drug store and try on perfume and make-up and read all the beauty magazines.â
Then, after graduating from high school in 1983, she left South Dakota and headed for New York City, where she got her first taste of beauty on a giant scale, working as a professional make-up artist for modeling shoots, bridal shows, etc. She went from a town of 800 to a city of more than 12 million people.
âIt was a shock, but I caught on quickly,â she said.
Ms Dismont eventually returned to the Midwest, where she enrolled in an eight-month esthetician program in Minneapolis. From there, she headed for California, where she worked at various spas and salons as an independent contractor.
âThen I decided it was time to branch out and do my own thing, and I always wanted to live in Connecticut,â she said.
Last September, this 30-something entrepreneur moved to Newtown after âbasically throwing a dart at a map.â And, after taking the time to find the right spot, she opened Envisage in the Sandy Hook center.
