MV Break-In

Sometime between 2 and 3 pm on June 6, someone forcibly entered a vehicle that was parked near an office building on Commerce Road, after which items were stolen from the vehicle, police said.

One of the vehicle’s windows was smashed to gain entry into the vehicle. The crimes committed are sixth-degree larceny and second-degree criminal mischief.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact police Officer Michael McGowan at 426-5841.

School Bus

Police report an accident involving a school bus and a SUV at the intersection of Sugar Street and Elm Drive about 7:43 am June 6.

There were no injuries. The school bus carried 11 students who attend Hawley School and Reed Intermediate School, police said.

Police said Fred Pendergast, 74, of 23 Riverside Road was driving a 2002 Bluebird school bus westward on Sugar Street, as motorist Rebecca Johnston, 41, of 168-A Brushy Hill Road was driving a 2004 Honda Pilot northward on Elm Drive. The Honda carried three child passengers.

The school bus began to make a left turn onto Elm Drive, as the Honda began to make a right turn onto Sugar Street, after which the vehicles collided, police said.

Police said they issued Pendergast a written warning for making an improper left turn.

I-84 DUI

Motorist Benny Shirindza, 30, of New Milford was driving a 1997 Volkswagen Jetta eastward on Interstate 84, near Exit 10, about 7 pm June 1, when he lost control of the auto, veered to the right and struck some metal-beam guardrailing, destroying the auto, state police said.

Shirindza was not injured. State police charged him with driving under the influence and with three other vehicular violations. Shirindza was scheduled to appear in court to answer the charges.

 

SUV Vs SUV

Police report a collision between two sport-utility vehicles on Church Hill Road about 12:26 pm June 8.

Motorist Nathan Kaufman, 19, of 37 Rosemere Drive, who was driving a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser, was attempting to make a left turn from a driveway at 66 Church Hill Road onto westbound Church Hill Road, as motorist Megan Ward, 32, of 15 Woodbine Lane was driving a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder eastward on Church Hill Road, police said.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police issued Kaufman a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Altercation

Police report an altercation between a man and a woman late on the night of June 7 at the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company’s annual Lobsterfest event at the Riverside Road firehouse.

Police said Garrett Clark, 25, of 114 Church Hill Road, and Carly Ciaccia, 24, of 34 Botsford Hill Road became involved in a verbal dispute, which led to Clark knocking a drink out of Ciaccia’s hand, after which Ciaccia punched Clark in the face.

Ciaccia then called police to report the incident. After investigating, police issued each person an infraction ticket on a charge of creating a public disturbance. The ticket, which carries a $103 fine, is appealable in court.
