Children attending the Childrenâs Adventure Center on Thursday, October 18, heard State Education Resource Center (SERC) Assistant Director Carol Sullivan read from Rob Scottonâs Scaredy-Cat, Splat!
The book was one of many donated to the Childrenâs Adventure Center on Thursday, when Ms Sullivan, Patty Wagner, and Signe Lambertsen visited from SERC to deliver the books, a donation in honor of former acting State Department of Education Commissioner George Coleman, a local resident.
âWeâre here to honor [Mr Coleman], honor your work, and support the children,â said Ms Sullivan to Childrenâs Adventure Center Director Judy Sims, Childrenâs Adventure Center Board of Directors Chair Mae Schmidle, and First Selectman Pat Llodra during the visit.
SERC, according to its website, is a nonprofit agency, primarily funded by the Connecticut State Department of Education, that provides professional development and information dissemination and more. The SERC library is located in Middletown, and Ms Sullivan said members of SERC came together to honor Mr Coleman by offering to donate books in his name to places of his choice. One of the places he chose was the Childrenâs Adventure Center.
Ms Sullivan also said the group had fun selecting the books to give to the Childrenâs Adventure Center.
