S. Ray Barry

S. Ray Barry, 80, of Newtown, formerly of Danbury, died July 13, at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of Gloria (Albano) Barry. Mr Barry was born in Danbury, October 8, 1931, the son of Genevieve (Cukras) and Joseph J. Barry.

He was a graduate of Danbury High School Class of 1949, and served in the US Air Force during the Korean War.

Mr Barry was employed for 20 years with the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co in its Danbury office, and later was employed as a liquor salesman for Brescome/Barton Distributors, retiring in 1997.

He was a member of several local organizations, including Alhambra, the Knights of Columbus, the Danbury Men’s Club, the Richter Park Golf Club, and the VFW. He volunteered as a coach with the Lebanon American Little League, when his sons played baseball during the 1970s, loved his New York Yankees, Giants, Rangers, and Knicks sports teams, was a big fan of UConn men’s and women’s basketball, and was an avid golfer.

Mr Barry was a longtime parishioner of St Gregory the Great Church, Danbury. He was the best husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.

In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Cindy and Tom Hoefer of New Milford, Raymond and Debra Barry of New Milford, Bob Barry of Alliston, Ontario, Kevin and Janette Barry of Danbury; one sister, Gloria Nash of West Patterson, N.J.; a special cousin, Bob Rainville of Las Vegas, Nev.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one niece and one nephew. He was predeceased by his son Joseph James Barry.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated July 18. Interment was in St Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
