Snapshot: Kristen Provost Switzer
Occupation: I'm a member of the clergy with United Church of Christ. I'm currently in between congregations. I just finished an interim pastorate in Prospect, Conn.
Family: I'm married to Scott. He's a musician. We are coming up on our five-year anniversary on May 30.
Pets: We have three cats, Fred, Toni, and Clara. They are all rescue cats from the same litter. They are going to be seven years old in August.
How long have you lived here? I'm originally from Sandy Hook. I went away to college when I was 18, and Scott and I moved back to Sandy Hook in February of 2015.
What do you like to do in your free time? Scott and I play with the New England New Music Ensemble (NENME), and we have two concerts coming up in May. I play the cello and occasionally, the electric bass. NENME doesn't play anything more than 50 years old. We like to take classics and arrange them for our quirky instrumentation. I love to go hiking. I am a devout vegetarian, so I like to experiment with food and see what I can cook up every weekend. I was also just appointed to the Board of Ethics in Newtown, and I imagine that will take up some time. I go to the gym about six times a week - that's my happy place.
What kind of music are you listening to now? Everything! I'm into 70s folk rock and I'm loving the new stuff Beyoncé is doing. I'll listen to "Formation" ten times in a row, no kidding. I have George Harrison on my CD player right now.
Do you have a favorite travel destination? Scott and I try to go to New Hampshire every year. This year, though, we're going to Quebec City and then road trip over to Nova Scotia, for our five-year anniversary, and to celebrate our 30th birthdays.
What is the best thing about Newtown? Probably the people. There's a reason I wanted to move back here. It's a great community, and a great place to raise kids. I love the small town feel. I love running into people I know in the supermarket.
Who has been the greatest influence in your life? My parents. They always exemplified good morals and motivation. They encouraged me to do what I wanted to do, like studying music and the ministry. They are the most encouraging people, along with Scott, in my life.
What makes you happiest? Being in nature. It feels very spiritual to me. Just exploring and being mindful of nature makes me feel alive.
Do you have a guilty pleasure? Netflix bingeing! I just finished watching Narcos. I watched the entire series in a couple of day. Well, I was resting a sprained ankle, and it was so rainy…
