Peggy Helmes Bower

Truly An Angel

Peggy Helmes Bower, 49, of New Fairfield, and formerly of Katonah, N.Y., died at Danbury Hospital, June 27. She courageously battled brain cancer for almost three years.

Ms Bower is survived by her devoted husband, Patrick Bower, who grew up in Newtown; a beloved son and daughter, Nicholas and Emily Kyle, of New Fairfield; and her large loving family including her parents, Bruce and Margaret Helmes of Katonah; seven siblings; and 22 loving nieces and nephews. 

She obtained degrees in fine arts and education from Catholic University and then attended the Fashion Institute in Paris, eventually working for the likes of Ralph Lauren and Karl Lagerfeld.

She taught art at the elementary level of Rye Country Day School, in Rye, N.Y., for a number of years, earned her master’s degree in education from Manhattanville College, and taught in the Katonah–Lewisboro School District. She left teaching when she moved to New Fairfield. 

A talented artist, Ms Bower had her own art studio, Creative Soul, in her home. She was generous with her art, sharing her creations with friends and family.

Ms Bower always gave freely of her time and energy to support children and the community.

She will forever live in the hearts of all who knew her.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated July 1. Burial followed at Mountain View Cemetery, New Fairfield.
