Jenna Legros fired a two-hitter, striking out 16 and facing just one batter more than the minimum in leading the Newtown Middle School softball team to a 2-0 win over Swift Junior High of Watertown last week.

The win boosted the Lady Lions’ record to 4-0 on the year.

Legros struck out the side in the first and fourth innings and had at least two strikeouts in each of the other five innings. Meanwhile, Laura Newberry rapped a run-scoring hit in the fourth inning and Kate Bowen followed with a steal of home to hand the Lions their only two runs of the game.

The Lions opened the season with a 15-2 win over Rochambeau and then followed with an 8-3 win over Jockey Hollow, a 13-3 win over Jockey Hollow, a 12-1 win over Bethel and a 4-0 win over Memorial.

Against Rochambeau, Kaila Harrington had two hits and three RBI while Megan Sajovic banged out a pair of hits and drove in two runs as every spot in the batting order accounted for at least one run.

Legros and Ally Modzelewski combined on the mound for a six-hitter with 10 strikeouts. Nora Lynn Shimko and Alyssa Robinson sparked the defense.

In the first win over Jockey Hollow, Sajovic and Kate Bowen combined on a 12-strikeout shutout performance.

Caitlin Cosgrove tripled for one of the big blows in the game.

In the win over Bethel, Sajovic singled three times and tripled as Emily Kluga singled twice and tripled to lead a 17-hit attack. Bowen and Legros collected two hits apiece as Christine Beck and Marley Koschel each doubled.

The Lions broke open a 4-1 game with seven runs in the seventh inning.

In the win over Memorial, Sajovic picked up the win with 13 strikeouts. The Lady Lions snapped a 0-0 tie with two runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth (Sajovic and Bowen reached first and stole their way to home).

In the second win over Jockey Hollow, Shimko singled and doubled as Newberry and Beck banged out two hits apiece. Legros also doubled.
