Special Weather Statement For Thursday, January 24

UPDATE: This report has been updated to include information on a flood warning.

The National Weather Service out of New York City has issued a special weather statement for northern Fairfield County, until 4 pm, Thursday, January 24.

“ A line of heavy rain with possible thunderstorms will move in this afternoon between 1 pm and 4 pm. Widespread wind gusts of 50 to 60 mph are possible with this line. This could bring down tree limbs, trees, and power lines.”

Please be prepared for this inclement weather.

The National Weather Service in Albany, N.Y. has issued a  flood warning for the Housatonic River at Stevenson Dam, from this afternoon until late Saturday night.  At 11 am Thursday the stage was 9.5 feet. Flood stage is 11.0 feet.  Minor flooding is forecast. The river is forecast to reach flood stage by 5 pm, Thursday, and forecast to continue to rise to near 12.2 feet around 7 am, Friday, January 25. The river is forecast to fall below flood stage after 11 pm, Saturday, January 26. At 11.5 feet, water reaches the Maples area of Shelton.
