A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated July 13 at St Peter Church in Danbury for Margaret Jeanette (Shanley) Wixted. Burial followed in St Peter Cemetery.
She was the sister of Edward Shanley of Newtown.
Margaret Wixted was born in Danbury, October 1, 1919, to Edward F. and Clarice (Clapp) Shanley. She grew up in Bethel and graduated from Bethel High School. Margaret graduated as an RN from the Danbury Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1940. She married Edwin A. Wixted of Danbury in 1955.
She was beloved by many Bethelites as the office nurse for Dr Albert J. Trimpert for 15 years. After her marriage, she worked as a private duty nurse in Danbury and surrounding towns for another 25 years.
Margaret did volunteer work with the Danbury Red Cross Bloodmobile, St Peterâs Thrift Shop, and St Peterâs School. She was a proud member of the Danbury Hospital Alumnae Association and St Peterâs Womenâs Guild. She served as secretary for Chapter 3340 of AARP. For many years, while her family was young, she belonged to St Monicaâs Mothersâ Circle.
Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Edwin Wixted, Sr, in 1999, and her sister, Catherine Cole, in 1990.
Margaret leaves five children and their families to mourn her passing: Anita and Vladimir Hampl of Georgia; Edwin, Jr, and Linda Wixted of Waterbury; Dennis and Ingrid Wixted of New Fairfield; Grace Wixted of Brookfield; and Michael and Paisley Wixted of Guilford. She also leaves 11 grandchildren who were the lights of her life.
She is also survived by four sisters: Dorothy McGurkin of Wethersfield; Ruth (and William) Hennessey of Florida; Joan Oberg of Bethel; and Clarice Osiecki of Danbury. She also leaves Dorothy Kane of Danbury, Joan Sullivan of Florida, Mary Gorman of Florida, and William Wixted of New Mexico (siblings of her husband Edwin); and several cousins and countless nieces and nephews.
