Donald Robert Oman, 84 of Sandy Hook, died Monday, August 8, at Danbury Hospital. He was the widower of Antoinette Marie (Fratto) Oman, who died in January.

Mr Oman was born September 29, 1926, in Norwalk, son of Alice M. (Nesline) and Julius A. Oman.

He is survived by his three daughters, Anne Leclercq, and her husband Ernie, of Danbury, Beth Musgrave, and her husband Ray, of Sanger, Calif., and Cathy Moore, and her husband Andy, of Danbury. He is also survived by six grandchildren, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mr Oman worked in the accounting department at Perkin Elmer/Hughes Corporation for more than 35 years. He was a former member of Stony Hill Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of its first graduating EMT class, as well as recipient of the honor of Volunteer Fireman of the Year. He was a driver for the American Cancer Society and lifelong blood donor, contributing an amazing 19 gallons during his lifetime.

He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and 35-year parishioner and volunteer at St Mary’s Church in Bethel. He was also a volunteer at St Rose of Lima Church in Newtown.

He loved feeding the birds and gardening. He was a graduate of Norwalk High School.

A World War II Navy veteran, Don served his country aboard the USS Intrepid. He always held the United States in his highest regard and flew the flag with respect and honor and cherished God, family, country.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Mary’s Church, 26 Dodgingtown Road in Bethel, on Friday, August 12, at 10 am. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Norwalk. The family was scheduled to receive friends at Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Avenue in Bethel, on Thursday, August 11, from 5 to 8 pm.
