Occupation: One of my several occupations is breeding Spanish Norman horses. This is a new breed developed in Connecticut that is a cross between a Percheron (for size and strength) and an Andalusian (for movement).  Its DNA is very close to that of horses used by the knights during medieval times. I’ve got a foal coming in late June whose sire is named Excalibur. I also breed old English mastiffs, a litter of kittens was born in the barn, and we’ve got 50 exotic chickens whose eggs we’ll be selling this summer. I breed baby doll sheep, an old breed that is almost extinct. They are especially intelligent and peaceful animals. Aside from all this animal husbandry, I am also a realtor with ReMax Right Choice working out of Trumbull.

How Long In Newtown: I have lived in Sandy Hook for eight years, having moved here from Arkansas. My house was built in 1740 on four acres off of Great Ring Road, and I call it Wild Rose Farm. I grew up in Darien and went to Boston University, majoring in communication and public relations. When we moved to Arkansas, I worked in investment banking for Alice Walton, the daughter of Sam Walton. Fayetteville, Ark., is a quiet place nestled in the Ozarks and it is very different from here. People sit through greet lights and they don’t even honk.

Family: My son, J.T., is 4½ years old and he goes to Tutor Time. He’ll start kindergarten next year at Sandy Hook School. He’s a huge help on the farm. My mother, Maureen Lewis, is a Newtown resident who owns The Blue Heron antiques store in Milford. It will be featured in Coastal Living magazine this summer.

Hobbies: I do oil painting and decorative furniture painting for my mother’s store, and I’m taking spinning classes –– not cycling, but spinning fleece from lambs.  I have taken up Hapkido at the Ipaccs School of Martial Arts in Monroe, and it’s great exercise.

Favorite Book, Movie: My favorite author is Anne Lamott who wrote Bird By Bird and Plan B: Further Thoughts On Faith. As for movies, I liked Stealing Heaven, which is the story of Heloise and Abelard. It’s one of the most romantic and tragic love stories you could imagine.

Favorite Vacation Spot: My mom has a camp in Maine and it’s heaven there –– a log cabin on a huge lake and only the bare necessities. We do lots of antiquing and reading and there is no television.

Organizations: I am on the Newtown Board of Realtors, and I belong to the Newtown United Methodist Church.

One Vivid Newtown Memory: Being in the barn with all the animals tucked in for the night on Christmas Eve. Hearing the contented chomping from the stalls, sensing their warm bodies, and feeling the steam from their breath as they munched on the hay. It was magical.

Personal Philosophy: I am grateful for every day. I wake up and as soon as I open my eyes, I count my blessings for all that is around me.
