Longtime Sandy Hook Resident
John Yuknek, 81, of Sandy Hook, died March 7, at Bridgeport Hospital. He was born in Olyphant, Penn., June 12, 1929, a son of Anna and William Yuknek.
Mr Yuknek was the beloved husband of Joan (McCarthy) Yuknek for 47 years. In addition to his wife, survivors include two sisters, Jean Kostro of Trumbull and Juel Jimmie of Scranton, Penn.; two brothers, Michael Yuknek, and his wife Marie, of Swarthmore, Penn., and William Yuknek, and his wife Dottie, of Dillsburg, Penn.; a sister-in-law, Margaret Conlan and her husband, Mortimer, of Oxford; and several nieces and nephews.
He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was employed by the former Jenkins Valve Company for 43 years, and was a resident of Sandy Hook for more than 40 years.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St Rose of Lima Church, March 10. Interment with Military Honors followed in Resurrection Cemetery, Newtown.
