Dick McEvoy is an oil and pastel painter who has always been influenced by the Abstract Expressionist and Impressionist art movements. For years he has created contemporary Impressionistic landscapes in pastel and oil, and Abstract Expressionist paintings in oil with a palette knife.

It has taken a number of years to arrive at his current point: an emerging art form of his own creation, called Abstract Impressionism.

The public is invited to meet Mr McEvoy — who is a Signature Artist and former officer of both the Pastel Society of America and of the Connecticut Pastel Society — during an open studio event this weekend at his studio, 51 Taunton Lake Road.

Mr McEvoy will open his studio on Saturday and Sunday, May 16-17, from 1 to 4 pm each day.

The public is invited to view some of his most recent works, as well as earlier pieces from his oeuvre.

Refreshments will be served, and the studio also offers beautiful views of Taunton Lake.

“Thru The Wildflower Thicket,” 40 by 40 inches, is from Dick McEvoy’s new series of Abstract Impressionist works.
