On Wednesday, July 15, campers in High Touch High Tech’s weeklong Find Your Superpowers camp, offered through Newtown Parks & Recreation, became scientists under the guidance of camp co-directors Christopher Cellini and Christopher Stetson.

The camp was held at the Newtown Teen Center for children between the ages of 7 and 12. The campers took to making capes and magnetic racing cars at the Find Your Superpowers camp, run by High Touch High Tech, a hands-on science camp and education company.

Throughout most of the summer, campers will be learning about a variety of superpowers at the camp, mainly through scientific endeavors. Throughout the week of July 13, campers used physics to propel hero boomerangs and used oxygen dehydration chambers to rapidly expand marshmallows.

Mr Cellini showed off some of the ways campers could use science to explore the worlds of the favorite superheros, and least favorite super-villains.

Mr Cellini used a tesla coil to show campers palpable electricity and later used hot dogs as conductors. Making capes and sending rockets into the air allowed campers to simulate the actions of superheroes, while a tesla coil that emits palpable electricity is more reminiscent of the bad guys. Mr Cellini said the camp provides a place where kids can learn important tools, while they can see science in a fun way.

More information about Newtown Parks & Recreation's programs is available off of its website, which is available off of newtown-ct.gov.

During one activity during the High Touch High Tech’s Find Your Superpowers camp, offered through Newtown Parks & Recreation this summer, campers used a Plasma Globe to conduct electricity with their fingers.
