Kevin Briody Teaches The Pillars Of Character
The cafeteria at Head Oâ Meadow School sounded like a baseball game at the conclusion of a cultural arts program performed by singer and song writer Kevin Briody of Ridgefield.
The students joined Mr Briody in, âTake Me Out To The Ball Game,â singing as the song like pros with smiles and all. Mr Briodyâs performance taught students about the six pillars of character â trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship through his songs.
Mr Briody is an artist with the Connecticut Master Teacher Artist program that makes it possible for professionals like Mr Briody to go to schools and talk with students and share their artistry with students. He was the Connecticut Commission of the Artsâ state troubadour in 2001, which is a two-year honorary position of that was established in 1991 by the legislature to encourage cultural literacy and to promote the State of Connecticut.
He has produced a family CD, The Front Porch. Mr Briody grew up playing the trumpet and has been song writing for 28 years.
âI wanted to give families and children a place to talk about things [like the six pillars of character],â he said. âI mostly subtly encourage those in my music. I give them a half-full sort of outlook that gives them a sense of their roles in life.â
Mr Briody told the Head Oâ Meadow students that a lot of songs are stories. The PTA Cultural Arts committee brought the program to the school.
