NCC Holds Cajun Dinner Dance To Raise Funds For Hurricane Survivors
On Saturday, October 1, the Newtown Country Club held a Cajun Dinner Dance to raise funds for the Hurricane Katrina Survivors.
Kiplyn Duffy, a Newtown resident who is originally from Louisiana, has many friends and family who were affected by the devastating affects of Hurricane Katrina. Mrs Duffy and her husband Dan are both members of the Newtown Country Club.
Chef Dave Stampfl prepared a traditional Cajun meal. Bob Osserman, Newtown Country Club president, and Mac McDonald presided over the eveningâs events. Co-chairs for the event were Mrs Duffy and Diane Baumer.
Event committee members were Ellie McDonald, Laura Rice, Melanie Lambert, and Beth Marusi. The NCC was decorated with traditional Mardi Gras colors â purple, green, and gold. Many of the decorations were donated by Gail Young and other friends from Shreveport, La.
Due to the outpouring of generosity and support from Newtown Business and area residents, Newtown Country Club was able to raise a total of $5,550, with a very generous corporate donation from Harvard Maintenance, Inc. The money that was raised is being donated to the Salvation Army Hurricane Katrina Fund.
Many local businesses and other donors contributed to the event including Newtown Florist, Newtown Nail, Truly Yours, Victorian Yarrow, Ricciâs Salon, Geppettoâs Toys, Magic Garden, Lexington Gardens, Bryan and Paula Woodhouse, Burgeritoville, Taunton Wine and Liquor, Fred Baumer, Dan Duffy, Sportsplex, April Vignone, Greater Candlewood Recreational Opportunities, and the Newtown Rotary Club.
