Kevin’s Community Center, Newtown’s free, nonprofit medical clinic, will conduct its sixth annual major fundraiser, Mozart, Merlot and Mums, a community gathering of wine tasting, live music, garden tours, and local fare, on Saturday, September 7, from 4 to 7 pm, at 50 Main Street, with a rain date of Sunday, September 8.

The event will be held at the residence of Shane and George Miller who generously offer the grounds and gardens of their historic Victorian home to Kevin’s Community Center every year for the fundraiser.

Since this is an outdoor event, should it also rain on Sunday, the event will take place (sans the garden tours), in The Alexandria Room of Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street.

The annual event will feature an extensive wine tasting hosted by Cork n Barrel from Newtown and culinary offerings supplied by Panino’s of Monroe.

An auction will also be held with such items as golf outings, vacation getaways, fine jewelry, and gift certificates from fine area restaurants. Guests will enjoy live music on the lawn and be encouraged to stroll through the beautiful grounds and gardens at the Miller residence.

Ticket prices are $25 per person in advance at Cork n Barrel, 266 South Main Street, or at C.H Booth Library, 25 Main Street. Tickets on site the day of the event for $30.

All proceeds will benefit Kevin’s Community Center, Inc, a non-profit, free medical clinic founded in 2002 by Dr and Mrs Z. Taweh of Newtown, in memory of their son Kevin. Their mission is to provide free primary health care for persons over the age of 18 who are uninsured or underinsured and have limited financial resources. This year there has been added need for healing in the community that makes a free medical clinic all the more significant, and with this increase in responsibility comes the need for additional support.

Kevin’s Community Center, 153 South Main Street, currently serves Newtown and all towns covered by the Newtown Health District. Hours of operation are every Wednesday from 1 to 5 pm.
