Newtown Educator Earning Reading Certification

Head O’ Meadow teacher Karen Blasko is participating in a program at Albertus Magnus College that will lead to certification as a reading specialist. The Connecticut Department of Higher Education sponsors this accelerated route to certification and Albertus Magnus administers it.

In July, Ms Blasko studied learning theory and assessment at Albertus Magnus and took part in a tutorial program on the campus involving New Haven and Hamden children.

During the winter, Ms Blasko will complete a number of clinical activities in the Newtown School System, returning to the Albertus campus one Saturday a month for further instruction. The program ends in July with work on a final project.
