Geraldine A. Hansen-Balt

Geraldine A. “Jeri” Hansen-Balt, 62, died at her residence in Poultney, Vt., on December 4. Ms Hansen-Balt was an elementary teacher in Newtown for 35 years.

She was born May 27, 1942, in Bridgeport, the daughter of Jerome A. and Dorothy P. (O’Connor) Hansen. She was a graduate of Western Connecticut State University and earned a master’s degree in education.

She married Richard Balt on April 20, 1979, at St James Church in Stratford. They moved to Poultney in 1999.

Ms Hansen-Balt was employed by the Green Mountain College as a supervisor in the teacher training division. She enjoyed volunteering in various projects in Poultney and was very active in the St Anne’s Church in Middletown Springs.

She loved her home and took great pride in decorating for the different seasons and holidays throughout the year. She also enjoyed her dogs, gardening, and cooking.

Her beloved husband, Richard Balt of Poultney survives her, as does her mother, Dorothy Hansen. A sister, Patricia Lynch Greene of California, and a brother, David Hansen of California; three nephews, two nieces, two grandnephews, and one grandniece also survive her.

A memorial service for Ms Hansen-Balt will be held Saturday, May 14, at noon, in Our Lady of Grace Church on Second Hill Lane in Stratford.
