Radar Patrol

While conducting a radar-based speed check near 86 The Boulevard at about 11:20 am on May 14, police said they stopped motorist Christopher Cochrane, 19, of New Milford for traveling faster than the posted speed limit.

Police said they searched the vehicle that Cochrane was driving and found a club-type weapon, as well as some marijuana and some drug paraphernalia.

Police said they charged Cochrane with traveling too fast, driving with a suspended license, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle.

Cochrane was released on $500 bail for a May 24 court appearance, police said.

Diamond Drive

Police report a one-car accident near 17 Diamond Drive about 9:30 pm on May 10.

In that mishap, motorist Timothy Arnone, 18, of 69 Taunton Lake Road, who was driving a 2010 Honda Civic sedan eastward on Diamond Drive, lost control of the vehicle on a curve and then went off the right side of the street, striking some curbing and a residential mailbox, police report.

Arnone was not injured. Police said they issued him an infraction for traveling unreasonably fast.

Toyota Key

Police report that at about 10:30 am on April 30, a person found a key for a Toyota-brand motor vehicle. The key was found in the Sugar Street (Route 302) area, according to police. Police are holding the key for safekeeping. Police ask anyone with information on its ownership to contact investigating Officer Matthew Hayes at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

Cadillac Crash

Motorist David Eckwall, 53, of 36 Charter Ridge Drive was driving a 2011 Cadillac CTS sedan on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with High Rock Road, about 4:30 pm on May 10, when a deer entered the street, resulting in a collision between the Cadillac and the animal, police report.

Eckwall was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Jeep Vs Volvo

Motorist Jeffrey Robinson, 61, of 80 Currituck Road, who was driving a 2001 Volvo S-60 sedan southward on South Main Street about 2:11 pm on April 30, stopped with his left-turn signal blinking while he was preparing to turn left onto Ethan Allen Road, and was then struck from behind by southbound motorist Steven Hoffman, 48, of 6 Aspen Lane, who was driving a 2006 Jeep Commander SUV, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Hoffman a written warning for following too closely.

Video Theft

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Christopher Socci, 24, of 18 Crossbrook Road turned himself over to police at the police station late on the night of May 9 and was charged with sixth-degree larceny and with second-degree making a false statement, police said.

Police said the charges listed in the warrant stem from their investigation into a January complaint which alleged that Socci had stolen a video game and a video game controller.

After arrest processing on May 9, Socci was released on $1,000 bail for a May 24 court appearance, police said.

Drug Arrests

Police report that at about noon on May 14, they received a report that there was a suspicious vehicle in the Laurel Trail neighborhood in the Riverside section, after which they went to the area to investigate.

Police said they found two youths in that vehicle, which was parked off the road.

After investigating, police charged one youth with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of alcohol by a minor. That youth was released on $500 bail for a June 6 court appearance.

Police charged the other youth with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana. That youth was released on a written promise to appear in court on June 6.

Because the people charged with criminal offenses are under age 18, their identities are shielded from public disclosure by state law.

Evading

At about 8:36 pm on May 14, police received a report concerning a motor vehicle accident that had occurred in the area of Hi-Barlow Road/Hattertown Road in which a motorist had driven away from the scene of the accident.

Newtown police said that a search by assisting Monroe police found the motorist who had allegedly left the Newtown accident scene in a parking lot at 525 Main Street in Monroe.

Newtown police said they then charged motorist Russell Westerholm, 55, of Bethel, with evading responsibility, making a restricted turn, and failure to have automotive insurance.

Police said they released Westerholm on $500 bail for a May 31 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

NHS Fight

An altercation between two Newtown High School students occurred at the school early on the afternoon of May 10, police report.

School officials and the police department’s school resource officer investigated the incident, after which police charged each of the two youths involved with second-degree breach of peace, police said.

Both of the youths were released for May 23 court appearances to answer the charges. Because the people charged with criminal offenses are under age 18, their identities are shielded from public disclosure by state law.

Moving Violations

Police report that early on the morning of May 15, they stopped a motorist near 172 Mt Pleasant Road to investigate possible violations.

The investigation resulted in police charging motorist Mark Fracker, 25, of 3 Maple Drive with misuse of marker plates, failure to illuminate a rear marker plate, and failure to have automotive insurance.

Police said they released Fracker on a written promise to appear in court on May 29.

DUI Incident

Police said that at about 1:39 am on May 14, they stopped motorist Margaret Reznikoff, 19, of 59 Poverty Hollow Road near 15 South Main Street for not keeping to the right while driving.

After investigating, police said they charged Reznikoff with driving under the influence while under age 21 and with failure to drive to the right.

After processing, police released Reznikoff on $100 bail for a May 26 court appearance.

Breach Of Peace

After learning that police held an arrest warrant for him/her, a youth went to the police station on the afternoon of May 13 and was charged with second-degree breach of peace, police said.

The arrest stems from an incident that occurred at Newtown High School on the morning of March 18, police said.

Police released the youth on a written promise to appear in court on May 23.

Because the person charged with the criminal offense is under age 18, the individual’s identity is shielded from public disclosure by state law.

MV Charges

While conducting a seatbelt-usage compliance checkpoint at the Exit 11 interchange of Interstate 84 about 10 am on May 14, police said they stopped driver Manuel Chacon, 30, of Danbury for not having a front marker plate on the vehicle he was driving.

Police said their investigation resulted in them charging Chacon with failure to display a front marker plate, driving under suspension, driving an overweight vehicle, and driving with inoperative brake lamps.

Chacon was released on $1,000 bail for a June 1 court appearance.

 

Castle Hill Road

Motorist James Villamana, 48, of 4 Pumpkin Lane, who was driving a 2004 Honda Accord sedan westward on Castle Hill Road about 9:12 pm on May 12, encountered a deer that had run onto the road, resulting in a collision, police said. Villamana was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant against him, Robert Mitchell, 49, of 11 Nutmeg Lane went to the police station on the evening of May 13 and was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court and with interfering with police, according to police.

The interfering charge stems from a February 1 incident on Nutmeg Lane that involved a parked vehicle blocking the flow of traffic on that street during snowy conditions, police said.

After processing on May 13, police released Mitchell on $150 bail for a May 31 court appearance.

Subaru Mishap

At about 9:20 pm on May 14, motorist Gretchen Streett, 17, of 6 The Boulevard was driving a 2004 Subaru Forester in the left lane of two lanes eastward on Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, when she swerved in order to avoid striking the vehicle traveling in front of her, state police said.

The Subaru, however, then struck the metal-beam guardrailing on the highway median, state police said.

Streett was not injured. State police said they verbally warned her for failure to maintain a safe distance apart from another vehicle.

Auto Vandalized

Sometime between 7 am and 2:45 pm on May 11, someone intentionally damaged the rear window of an unspecified motor vehicle that was parked at Newtown High School, police said. Possibly a rock or a BB-gun was used to cause that damage, according to police. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Officer John McCluskey at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Currituck Crash

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Currituck Road near its intersection with Main Street on May 12.

Motorist Melissa Singlak, 34, of 5 Autumn Ridge Road was driving a 2007 Honda Odyssey minivan southward on Currituck Road behind southbound motorist Patricia Beardsley, 64, of 22 Eden Hill Road, who was driving a 2010 Subaru Forester, police said.

The Subaru then stopped for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by the Honda, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Singlak a written warning for following too closely.

Botsford Accident

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the sharp curve on Botsford Hill Road at the Housatonic Railroad’s rail overpass at about 11:15 am on May 15.

Motorist Stephen Sederquest, 19, of Monroe was driving a 1996 Honda Accord sedan southward on Botsford Hill Road and was approaching the overpass, as motorist John Constantino, 61, of Elmsford, N.Y., was driving a 2008 Mercury Mariner SUV eastward on Botsford Hill Road and approaching the overpass from the opposite direction, police said.

As both vehicles were attempting to negotiate the sharp curve in the roadway at the overpass, the Honda slid on wet pavement and collided with the Mercury, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Sederquest an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

Warrant

Police report that on May 17 they arrested Amanda Jacobs, 23, of Kensington on a warrant, charging her with third-degree forgery and with attempted sixth-degree larceny.

Police said the charges stem from a December 2010 incident in which Jacobs allegedly attempted to cash a forged check.

After processing, police released Jacobs on a written promise to appear on June 2 in Danbury Superior Court.

South Main Crash

A two-vehicle head-on collision occurred about 10:51 pm on May 15 on South Main Street, near its intersection with Bears Hill Road.

Police said motorist Daniel Toth, 21, of Bethel was driving a 2000 Nissan Maxima sedan northward on South Main Street, as motorist Eramimomdas Neto, 29, no address given, was driving a 2000 Ford minivan southward there.

The two vehicles then collided head-on, police said. Both drivers were transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said.  Botsford firefighters responded to the accident.

The accident is under investigation, police said.
