Had A Zest For Life
Josephine âJosieâ Mary Vallelonga Mancuso, a resident of Naples, Fla., formerly of Greenwich, died of ovarian cancer, June 7, surrounded by her family at her daughterâs home in Sandy Hook. She was born in Nardo DiPace, Italy, October 19, 1932, to Maria Angela Fazio and Frank Vallelonga.
Mrs Mancuso is survived by her loving daughters, Theresa Ann Mulski and her husband, Patrick, of Sandy Hook, Donna Marie Mancuso of Naples, Fla., and Victoria Ann Mancuso of Milford. She is also survived by her brother, Damian Vallelonga and his wife, Patricia, of Syracuse, N.Y. She was a loving âNanaâ to her granddaughter, Alexis Mulski of Sandy Hook. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Dominick âMickeyâ Mancuso, who died February 7, 2008; and a brother, Cosmo Vallelonga.
She immigrated to the United States at the age of 3½ and her family settled in New Rochelle, N.Y. She married Dominick Mancuso on February 16, 1952. Together they made their home in Greenwich, moving to Naples in 2005.
She will be remembered for the many family gatherings, her Christmas cookies, her beautiful orchids and her zest for life. Calling hours were scheduled for Thursday, June 12, from 3 to 9 pm at the Castiglione Funeral Home, 134 Hamilton Avenue, Greenwich. A mass of Christian Burial was scheduled to be celebrated Friday, June 13, at 10 am, at St Roch Roman Catholic Church, 10 Saint Roch Avenue, Greenwich. Entombment to follow in St Mary Cemetery in Greenwich.
The family wishes to thank their many devoted family and friends, and the health care givers from Greenwich Hospital and Regional Hospice in Danbury, who supported them with love and compassion during Mrs Mancusoâs illness.
