Intersection Collision

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Hawleyville Road (Route 25) and Barnabas Road about 8:40 am on March 22.

Motorist Sarah Nidal Azba, 34, of Bethel was driving a 2004 Mercedes-Benz C-240 sedan westward on Barnabas Road, as motorist Shalom Lampell, 80, of Brookfield was driving a 2002 Cadillac Seville sedan northward on Hawleyville Road, police report.

At the intersection of those two roads, Barnabas Road is controlled by a stop sign, but the Mercedes entered the intersection before it was safe to do so, resulting in the two cars colliding, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Azba a written warning for failure to obey a stop sign and also gave Azba a verbal warning for failure to renew a vehicle registration.

Vandalism

Police are investigating a case of vandalism at the Newtown Skate Park at Dickinson Park in which someone sometime on March 20 used a felt-tipped marking pen to deface the concrete-bowl structure at the skate park. Youths ride skateboards within that bowl.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of who vandalized the premises to contact them at the police station at 3 Main Street (Route 25), telephone 203-426-5841.

Rollover

At about 2:07 am on March 18, motorist Dylan Capon, 25, of 40 Hundred Acres Road, who was driving a 2007 Subaru Impreza sedan near 23 Bears Hill Road, was involved in a rollover accident that caused minor injuries, police report.

Capon was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Botsford volunteer firefighters responded to the accident. Police said the incident is under investigation.

Utility Pole

Police report that motorist Gregory Kraushaar, 24, of 49 Osborn Hill Road was driving a 2000 Toyota Corolla sedan eastward on Berkshire Road and then made a left turn onto northbound Bennetts Bridge Road, after which the vehicle went out of control and struck a utility pole at about 5:10 am on March 17.

Kraushaar was not injured. Police said they issued Kraushaar a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Parking Lot

Police report a two-vehicle accident within the parking lot at Newtown High School at 12 Berkshire Road (Route 34) at about 5:35 pm on March 21.

Police said the accident occurred between motorist Ruhit Hakim Ahsan, 16, of 3 Pocono Road, who was driving a 2002 Lexus RX-300 SUV, and motorist Christina Russo, 45, of 12 Palestine Road, who was driving a 2003 Honda Pilot SUV.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Sandy Hook Center

Two vehicles collided at the intersection of Washington Avenue, Riverside Road, Glen Road, and Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook Center about 5:40 pm on March 9, according to police.

Motorist Joseph Ouelette, 22, of Bristol, who was driving a 1996 Buick LeSabre sedan, had been traveling northward on Washington Avenue and was attempting to drive straight through the four-way intersection to enter northbound Glen Road, as motorist Richard Deblasi, 48, of 5 Megan’s Circle, who was driving a 2009 Nissan Maxima sedan, had been driving southward on Glen Road, and was attempting to turn left to enter eastbound Riverside Road, police said.

The two cars collided in the intersection. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Deblasi a written warning for making a restricted turn.

DUI Incident

Police said that a motorist who was near the intersection of Main Street and Sugar Street called them at about 7 pm on March 24 to report that another motorist was driving erratically, so they went to the area to check out that report.

Police said that they then saw the reported vehicle swerving, so they stopped its driver to investigate near 6 Queen Street.

Police said they charged motorist Danielle Licursi, 28, of 42 Key Rock Road with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right. Licursi was released on $100 bail for an April 10 court appearance, police said.

Garage Damaged

Police report that at about 10 am on March 23, they received a call informing them that a garage had been damaged at a residential property on Old Hawleyville Road, near its intersection with Farrell Road, so they went there to investigate.

Sometime on March 22 or on the morning of March 23, an unknown person damaged the left front corner of the garage, creating about $500 worth of property damage, police said.

Police ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them at 203-426-5841.

Shoplifting Case

Police report they received a complaint from the Big Y supermarket at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street at about 5 pm on March 23 concerning an alleged shoplifting incident having occurred there.

Police said that after investigating, they charged Michael D’Amico, 28, of 5 Blue Spruce Drive with sixth-degree larceny.

After processing, police released D’Amico on $100 bail for an April 5 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Wedding Ring

On March 17, a man’s yellow metallic wedding ring was found on a tennis court at Treadwell Park on Philo Curtis Road in Sandy Hook. Police said they are holding the ring for safekeeping. To claim the ring, the owner should contact police at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

Sandy Hook Accident

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Toddy Hill Road and Berkshire Road (Route 34) about 5:10 pm on March 22, police said.

Police said that motorist Nancy Winner, 61, of Trumbull, who was driving a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV, stopped on Toddy Hill Road and was waiting for traffic, when the Hyundai was struck from behind by motorist Kelly Ann Matuskiewicz, 41, of Wallingford, who was driving a 2002 Volkswagen Passat sedan.

There were no injuries. Police said they warned Matuskiewicz for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Booth Library

Police report that motorist Shan Kurkcu, 19, of 2 Galilee Way, who was driving a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder SUV, was backing out of a parking space in the Booth Library parking lot at 25 Main Street on the afternoon of March 22, when the Nissan struck a parked, unoccupied 1995 Subaru Impreza station wagon.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Warrant

Police said that midday on March 26, they arrested Michael Morrison, 26, of 134 Underhill Road on a warrant at the police station, charging him with failure to respond to an infraction stemming from initial charges of littering and simple trespassing.

Because Morrison did not respond to a past infraction, police received an arrest warrant against him in the case. Police released Morrison on $35 bail for an April 10 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Failure to Appear

Midday on March 26, police said they charged Barbara O’Reilly, 30, of Bristol on warrant at the police station.

Police arrested O’Connor on two counts of second-degree failure to appear in court stemming from single past counts of speeding, driving with a suspended license, and failure to have automotive insurance.

After processing, police released O’Reilly on $500 bail for an April 10 court appearance.

Arrest Warrant

Police report that on the night of March 26, they arrested Robert Coffey, 28, of Waterbury on a warrant listing charges of sixth-degree larceny and fraudulent use of an automatic teller machine.

Police said they arrested Coffey at a Sandy Hook Center address after learning that Coffey was there.

The warrant stemmed from a police investigation into a January 3 complaint, police said.

Police held Coffey on bail for arraignment on the charges on March 27 in Danbury Superior Court. Coffey is next scheduled to appear in court on April 3 to enter pleas to the charges.

DUI Arrest

Police said that at about 12:48 am on March 29, they stopped motorist Mary Guinness, 39, of Danbury on Mt Pleasant Road, near its intersection with Violette Road, to investigate.

Police report they charged Guinness with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn.

After processing, police released Guinness on $100 bail for an April 12 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Violation

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Matthew Gray, 24, of Bethel went to the police station about 1 pm on March 28 and was charged with violation of probation, police said.

After processing, police released Gray on $500 bail for a March 29 court appearance.

Multiple Charges

Police said that they observed motorist Alexa Larsen, 44, of 123 Lakeview Terrace driving on Currituck Road at about 10 am on March 28 and realized that there were two pending arrest warrants against her, so they stopped her to investigate.

Initially, police charged Larsen with driving with a suspended license. Based on the two pending warrants, police charged her with three counts of second-degree failure to appear in court, two counts of driving an unregistered vehicle, one count of breach of peace, and one count of criminal trespassing.

Police said they held Larsen on $1,100 bail for a March 29 court appearance.
