The Lightning 11-and-under girls travel team also advanced with a 6-0 win over Westport as Kailee Dunnigan and Amy Martinelli scored two goals apiece.

Bridgeport 3, Power 2 â The Power battled back from a 2-0 deficit before succumbing to Bridgeport. Jessica Jowdy scored one goal and Christina Caporale added a second in the contest. Nora Murphy , Hannah Maret and Kayla OâLeary all played well on offense while Celeste Cheung and Brooke Leifels anchored the defense.
Power 2, Fairfield 0 (State Cup) â The Power advanced to the third round of the State Cup with a 2-0 victory over Fairfield. Jessica Jowdy scored the game winner and Lexi Black added another goal from an assist by Alex Klein. Lydia Post notched her third shutout of the season in goal while Ashley Cirone pressured Fairfieldâs goalie throughout the contest. Strong play was also turned in by Courtney Beckett and Molly Mahony.
Boys U13
Stratford 4, Cobras 2 (State Cup) â Despite a valiant effort, the Cobras were eliminated from State Cup play. Pieter Martino led a tremendous effort on both sides of the ball and scored on a penalty kick. Drew Sullivan added Newtownâs second score with a rebound off a penalty kick. Robert Willis was impressive as keeper in the second half. Colin Moller and Devin DiNicola played a strong midfield while Peter Kerns, Alec Lockhart and Ricky Fuentes defended with several key tackles and kick-aways.
Cobras 6, Monroe 0 â The Cobras were firing on all cylinders with 21 shots on goal as the scoring was led by Patrick Riccardi with two goals. Noah Sock, Drew Sullivan, Ian Solaski and Kieran Lardner each added a score. Pieter Martino assisted twice and Richard Greenwood added one. Alec Lockhart and Matt Rahtelli anchored the air tight defense and Sean Elliott had the shutout.

Enfield 5, Flash 2 (State Cup) â The Flash played with heart, but fell short to Enfield. Lydia Beiter scored off an assist by Katie Shirley. Lindsay Jossick had a strong game with several shots on goal, succeeding on one with a long pass from Bianca Solano. Jilliana Ciamarra and Molly Arneth played tough in midfield. Bianca Solano and Julia Trudell put up a good fight in defense.
Boys U12
Beasts 4, Enfield 3 (OT) â Robert Linden, Matt Mossbarger and Steffan Dullinger scored on assists from Matt Baldino and Matt Mossbarger as the Beasts slipped past Enfield in an overtime shootout. Grant Ricketts and Jonah Muniz had an outstanding game. Austin Raftery excelled in goal, especially in the shootout.
Beasts 2, Westport 0 â Andrew Martinez and Grant Ricketts scored to lift the Beasts to the win. Michael Teixeira, Jacob Moore, Adam Hufziger and Otto Kerler had strong games as Owen Gaston and Austin Rafteryâs strong play in goal preserved the shutout.
Simsbury 1, Beasts 0 (State Cup) â In a hard fought game, the Beasts lost to Simsbury. Robert Linden, Jonathan Schwartz and Stefan Dullinger provided the offense. Jonah Muniz and Doug Miller were strong in the midfield. Wesley Morlock, Connor Gallagher and Matt Baldino were strong on defense and Austin Raftery excelled in goal.
Boys U11
Granby 4, White Lightning 1 (State Cup) â The White lightning traveled to Granby and dominated the game, going into the half at a 1-1 tie, and started strong in the second half by out-shooting Granby, 10-5, and keeping the game drawn until late. But in a brief three-minute span, Granby took advantage of several breakaways to score three times. Kaj Djonne scored the lone Newtown goal on a penalty kick. Clay Gattey and Dillon Wikramnanyake were dominating as mid fielders while Knute Johnson was solid at fullback. Graham Hubbert was very aggressive at striker.
Westport Blue 6, White Lightning 1 â Michael Cook, who weaved in and around three Westport defenders, faked left and shot right for the lone Newtown goal. Michael Biancardi played very well, setting up many advances up the left side, as Kevin Droniak and Nathyn Horvath played great games on defense. Patrick Rowley and Jeremy Doski worked the midfield well.
Girls U11
Lightning 6, Westport 0 (State Cup) â The Lightning recorded a decisive victory over Westport in their first State Cup game. Kailee Dunnigan and Amy Martinelli had two goals each while Jessica Keller and Siena Cicarelli chipped in one apiece. Newtown also put up an impenetrable defense, with good hustle by Dale Shearin in the back field and Michele Zarifis at midfield. Raquel Crespo, Cassie Fischer and Kailee Dunnigan shared goalie duties.
Lightning 4, Wilton 3 â Sarah Lynch notched a pair of goals, Kailee Dunnigan added one and Emily Riley scored on a penalty kick as the Lightning won a hard-fought game against Wilton. Kate Fallon and Dale Shearin were good in goal, while Meghan Korchman and Helene Sorensen helped power the Lightning defense.
Girls U10
Monroe 2, Comets 0 â Facing another tough, seasoned opponent the Comets came up empty. The tight, aggressive defense of Brenna Kelly and Emily Charash, along with the multiple saves earned by Alyssa Ruefenacht and Kim Brello in goal, helped keep the game close. Mikayla Kuligowski showed great skill controlling play at midfield while Sarah Lyon shut down opponents with solid tackling.
Boys U10
Westport Blue 6, Strikers 3 â The Strikers rallied with a strong second half in their outing against Westport. Chris Healy led the charge with two goals. Paul OâLeary added a third goal with a spectacular cross-field shot from beyond the mid-field line. Defensively, Tyler Dullinger and goalkeeper Josh Houle played well to keep the score close, while John Carlson and Jacob Ermis had great all-around games.

Boys U14
Boots 2, The Fives 1 â Jake Tolson scored a goal and assisted on another to lead the Boots to the win. Jake Locorotondo played a strong field game and Ryan Pisani supplied offensive pressure from the wing. Ryan Moyer played well in goal. For The Fives , Harry Solaski scored the goal as Matt Barra was very active at midfield. Isaac Farrington kept the match tight with two defensive headers at the goal.
Wolverines 3, Vipers 1 â Colin Cooper scored twice and Matt Janko add a late goal to clinch the victory for the Wolverines. Jared Wray and Robert Nordman also play strong games. Luke Shearin scored the lone goal for the Vipers with an assist from Fredrik Dean. Tom Giarratano and Dan Olszewski played well at midfield while Nathan Norwich solidified the defense.
AT&T 5, Wolverines 3 â Gavin Scallon and Will Carr powered AT&T in the win. Joshua Tuffy did a great job at midfield and Evan Swain had a great game. For the Wolverines, Colin Cooper and Miles Dobbrow scored as Robbie Nordman did a great job in goal and Danny Cummings played a solid field game.

That Team 2, Smurfs 2 â Kaitlyn VosWinkel and Sera Pisani scored to lead That Team in its draw with the Smurfs. Aless Delia, Lauren Meyer and Sarah McMahon played outstanding. For the Smurfs, Becca Silveira and Emily Lones scored. Emily Dion and Randy Jackson played well in goal.
Smiters 2, That Team 0 â Katelyn D'andrea and Claire Miles scored the goals that lifted the Smiters to the win. Jessica Lynch provided an assist while Jill Theile, Aileen Sheluck and Paige Thanasoulis also had strong games. For That Team, Lauren Sarna played excellent in goal and Aless Delia, Michaela Beaudry and Kerry Scallon turned in strong performances.
Girls U10
Funky Monkeys 3, Blazing Monkeys 1 â Zoe Brodsky, Lauren Beier and Victoria Kirkman scored for the Funky Monkeys as Kayleigh Shambelan and Noelle Veillette played great to secure the win. Ceila Gold scored the goal for Blazing Monkeys with an assist from Catherine McHugh. Brianna McDonald and Megan Weber created several scoring chances and Maren Brady was solid in goal.
Rockets 1, Turf Devils 0 â The only thing separating these two tough teams was a skillful rocket of a shot from Hannah Booth from a tight angle on the right that zoomed into the Turf Devils net for the only goal. Cate Haggerty and Nicole Russo had strong games on defense, with Emily Jerris playing great in goal. For the Devils, Anita Luxkaranayagam, Kat Jennings, Grace Sandercox and Kelly Merrick had good games.
Super Shooters 4, Torpedoes 1 â A pair of goals from Caitlin Filiato and one each from Courtney Datin and Tonya Tucker led the Super Shooters to victory. Stephanie Haas played a great game in goal. For the Torpedoes, Emma Burns scored on a great assist from Marina Renzi. Anna Pinckney was sharp on defense, Molly Begg was strong on offense and Rachel Crosby had a great all-around game.
Funky Monkeys 3, Bulldogs 0 â Anna Biondi scored two goals and Lauren Beier added one to lead the Monkeys to the win. Amy Luper and Bailey Smith played well. For the âDogs, Emily McCoy and Eliza Eggleston had a solid day in net as Maddie Strokis and Brianna Lutz played well on offense.
Bulldogs 3, Galaxy 2 â Maddie Strokis scored two goals and Eliza Eggleston scored one to lead the Bulldogs to the win. Outstanding goal tending came from Samantha Dion and Lizzie Wojcik while there was strong overall play by Emily Turco and Anna Buzzanca. For the Galaxy, goals were scored by Sierra Mather and Christina Moore with an assist by Meghan Grimes. There was great overall play by Lauren Villamana and Alexi Rodriguez, while Hannah Delia headed up the defense.
Boys U10
Chocolate Milks 4, Strikers 3 â In a closely contested match, Chris Rovelli scored three times and Ryan Kiss added a goal to lead the Chocolate Milks to victory. Ryan Maron had an outstanding game in goal and Lucas LaDestro played a great defensive game. For the Strikers, Richard Ciamarra registered a hat trick scoring three goals to power the offense. Kyle Keeping and Greg Thiele had strong games at midfield while Zachary Pollock and Cooper Buonocore anchored the defense.
Tigers 2, Chocolate Milks 1 â Patrick Berger scored two goals, assisted on both by Tony Leonardi, to lead the Tigers to the win. Tommy Elliott played well in goal while Nick Yarosis played well on defense. Chris Rovelli scored the lone goal for the Milks. Ryan Kiss had an outstanding offensive game while both Zachary Boland and Michael Meyer played a strong defensive game.
Blue Dragons 5, Stags 2 â Ryan Helmig scored three goals and Jacob Harper added two to lead the Dragons. Quinlan Hart and Scott Martin both played well in goal. For the Stags, Liam McNichols scored twice. James Barry and Alister Sore both had some key saves while playing goal as Kaustau Mitra played well in the midfield.
Boys U8
Blue Hurricanes 1, Bulldogs 1 â Joshua Harper scored for the Blue Hurricanes and Shane Gattey scored for the Bulldogs in this 1-1 draw. For the Blue Hurricanes, Jack Armstrong did an outstanding job at goalie as Silas Decker and Jacob Anastasi anchored the D. For the Bulldogs, Tyler LaCroce was strong in the goal and Jack Vaughan and Ryan Escoda provided strong overall play.
Cobras 2, Team (#9) 2 â Dylan Sock and Jack Bittman scored to lead the Cobras. Matt Gerbo scored twice for Team #9 while Tyler Trede and Austin Smith played well.
Great Whites 2, Blue Sharks 2 â Thomas Leuci and Alex Hess each scored with Hans Sorensen and Charles Romano playing great games for the Great Whites. For the Sharks, Ian Schull and Jacob Markowsky helped on offense while Andrew Lee scored two high kicking goals.
Cobras 1, Berserk Monkeys 0 â Dylan Sock scored the lone goal to lead the Cobras to the win. Austin Smith and Anthony Isabella anchored the D as David Lawrence passed well. For the Monkeys, Simm Preston and Ryan Kost were solid on offense. Owen Walsh played well on defense.

Wolverines 3, Team (#4) 2 â Jessica Maturo scored two goals and Maya Neuhoff added one to lead the Wolverines to the win. Megan Nahmias, Chloe Rogalin and Hana Rosenthal played well. For Team #4, Anna Moscovici (two saves), Natalie Klincher (goal), Julia Doyle (goal), Melissa Shoet and Cassidy Kortze had great games.
Dynamites 4, Skunks 0 â Sarah Houle scored two goals and Erin Tressler and Cassidy Keller added one each in a win over the Skunks. Zoe Ivan and Dani Gaiser played well. For the Skunks, Holly LoCasio and Annika Brady were dominating on offense as Allie Paynter and Katie Reilly were aggressive on defense..
Cheetahs 4, Blue Champions 1 â Allison Indelicato scored two goals as Alexis Mason and Sydney Johnson each scored one to lead the Cheetahs. Bridget Walsh played well. For the Champions, Keira Viellette scored the goal as Lauren Granville, Mia Katsureles and Cameo Delia also had excellent games.
Team (#5) 2, American Eagles 1 â Jillian Pieretti and Alexandra Manoni scored to lead Team #5 to the win. Vanessa Tucker and Isabella Luciano played well. For the Eagles, Meghan Doyle scored on a free kick. Rachel Wolf, Emily Winch and Rachel Tomasino played well.
Girls U6
Little Darlings 5, Cheetahs 2 â Katie Sailer scored a hat trick to lead the Little Darlings to the win. Jackie Matthews and Simone Paradis each scored one goal. Julia Sullivan played well as goalkeeper. Kristen Cirone scored two goals for the Cheetahs while Lin Vitarbo did a great job defending the goal. Jenna Gonski and Josie Hoover both played a great game

Blue Sharks 4, Pirates 0 â Jack McDermott scored three goals and assisted on another to lead the Blue Sharks. Henry Vaughn added a goal and an assist. For the Pirates, Issac Silverman, Trevor Tyrrell and Lukas Hongler each recorded three saves in goal.
Little Tigers 3, Team (#2) 2 â Mark Leonardi scored two goals and Billy Bruno netted the third to lead the Tigers to the win. Gren Paynter made several creative plays on offense and Jacob Clements contributed a tireless defensive game. Matthew Dubois scored two goals for Team #2 while Paul Samberg and Andrew Tomasino led a tenacious defensive effort. Devon Pope played a very strong game on both sides of the ball.
