SOUTHBURY – More than two dozen budding equestrians spent this past week at Brushy Hill Farm in Southbury learning a little bit about what it’s like to work on a farm and take care of a horse.

It was all part of the Parks and Recreation Department’s Summer Horse Camp - which is being run in five different sessions, from 9 am to 12 noon, five days a week. Besides outdoor rings and paddocks, Brushy Hill (off Coachman’s Drive) also features an indoor arena.

Kids as young as three (that would be the Little Britches group) and some older than 11 (that would be the Equestrian group) spent their mornings at Brushy Hill taking daily riding lessons, and learning a little about stable management, horse care and grooming. There were also contests and demonstrations each week

In the photo above, Ev Lindeborn (camp director and owner of Brushy Hill Farm) introduces the Little Britches group to Mr Kix, the mini. Kelsey Phillips (standing to the left of Ms Lindeborn) and Aileene Colburn (behind Ms Lindeborn) are camp counselors.

To the left, camp counselor Alex Gagliano (rear) shows Michelle Dunlap how to clean the hooves of the pony, Little Bonnie.

Below left, Mathew Pruner and Jaime Reiff do some grooming for Taz.

And bottom right, counselor Pam Ahe watches as Jacklyn Tagami brushes the coat of Scarlet.
