Caroline’s Gift

To the Editor:

We’d like to thank all the members of the Newtown Torpedoes Swim Team and their families who so generously donated to Caroline’s Gift. We are extremely grateful to the coaching staff for encouraging their swimmers to contribute to a local charity in lieu of giving coach’s gifts. And we’d like to express our deepest thanks to Laurie Martinelli and Kate Mayer for organizing the fund drive that raised $1,740 for Caroline’s Gift.

Caroline’s Gift is a charitable resource established in 1997 to provide financial assistance to Newtown families caring for critically ill or disabled children. Over the years contributions to the fund have defrayed the costs associated with chemotherapy and rehabilitation. Donations have enabled families to travel in search of treatment and to renovate homes to make them handicap accessible.

We are extremely fortunate to have Newtown Youth & Family Services’ assistance in administering Caroline’s Gift.

And we are indebted to The Torpedoes for all their help in continuing to make Caroline’s Gift a fund that makes a difference.
