Organizers Announce Plans For 20th Anniversary Health Fair
On September 28 a group of local health professionals and volunteers will celebrate the 20th annual Health and Public Safety Fair. Organizers Mae Schmidle, Dr Della Schmid, Health District Director Donna Culbert, Judy Blanchard and Natalie DosSantos say they are pleased to be able to bring the community so many free health screenings, free information and expertise, and plenty of health-related giveaways in a single one-stop location.
“Residents should come to the Newtown Middle School on Saturday, the 28th between 9 am and 1 pm and they will be certain to find something that appeals to their heart — pun intended,” Ms Culbert told The Newtown Bee this week “It’s an all-free, four-hour event; residents can drop by for a quick visit or stay for as long as they like.”
Besides the giveaways and free health screenings, there will be numerous free drawings, including one for a new bicycle, sponsored by Newtown Prevention Council; gift certificates to many of Newtown’s restaurants and eateries to honor Family Day, and generous promotions from many local businesses.
“Newtown’s most valuable resources, our first responders, will be front and center to meet visitors,” Ms Culbert added.
All five volunteer fire companies — Botsford, Dodgingtown, Hawleyville, Hook & Ladder, and Sandy Hook — as well as Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and Newtown Underwater Search And Rescue will all be represented.
“Out front as well as inside the gym will be Newtown Police demonstrating our officers’ skills, doing child safety seat installations and inspections and more,” Ms Culbert said.
Dozens of health care providers, businesses, organizations and agencies that want to share their services, expertise and information will be on hand.
There is no admission to the event.
Anyone with questions, or organizations looking to participate are invited to call the Newtown Health District at 203-270-4291.
