Joan D. Buch

Joan D. Buch, 69, of Crossbrook Road, Newtown, died August 7 at Laurelwood Nursing Center, Ridgefield, after a brief illness.

She was born in Bristol, April 11, 1931, daughter of the late Emile and Harriet (Schienke) Dion. A resident of Newtown for 36 years, Mrs Buch was employed in retail sales at the J.C. Penney store in Danbury for the past 10 years.

Mrs Buch was a charter member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Brookfield. For many years she was active in the PTA in Newtown. She was a driver for Newtown Meals on Wheels and a member of the County Consort Madrigal Group.

Mrs Buch is survived by a son, Peter Buch of Chapel Hill, N.C.; four daughters, Martha Richter of Bradford, R.I., Kathy McKee of Newtown, Janet Downes of Kent, and Nancy Whiteley of Ft Lauderdale, Fla.; a brother, Warren Dion of Terryville; two sisters, Audrey Sefter and Lorraine Petke, both of Southington; and two grandchildren, Andrew and Brook McKee.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Newtown Meeting House (at the flagpole in Newtown), Friday, August 11, at 11 am, with the Rev Roger White, rector of St Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Kent, officiating.

 Calling hours were scheduled for Thursday evening between 7 and 9 pm at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
