Deepa Bansal, a graduate of Newtown High School and a resident of Sandy Hook, is a freshman at the University of Rochester who has been named to the dean’s list for academic achievement for the fall 2000 semester.

Christopher J. Bassett of Newtown was named to the fall 2000 dean’s list at New York University recently.

Katherine Speirs, the daughter of Mr and Mrs Jeffrey R. Speirs of Newtown, and a student at Hamilton College, recently traveled to Russia with several peers and faculty members for spring break. The group toured St Petersburg and Moscow on scheduled tours and independent explorations led by a guide.

Miss Speirs is a senior majoring in sociology and is a graduate of Newtown High School.
