To the Editor:

The referees of the finals of the NCAA Women's Championship games could well have joined Notre Dame's coach, Muffet McGraw, in cutting down the net after the Notre Dame victories.

Unquestionably, in my opinion, the referees often swallowed their whistles when Notre Dame fouled, contributing to Notre Dame's win over UConn in the semifinals and Mississippi State in the final championship games.

Evidence, I believe, is incontrovertible!: Against UConn, Notre Dame had 23 free throws to UConn's six free throws and won only by two points. Three more free throws by UConn were all they needed for a win.

In the final championship game against Mississippi State, a critical "no call" against Notre Dame (seen by all watching on TV) in the last minutes of the game, largely contributed to Notre Dame's "squeaky win."

Both of the opposing coaches quietly acquiesced to the favoritism that the refs showed to Muffet and her team.
