Ruth Wuerthele

Mother And Grandmother

Ruth Wuerthele, 90, of Hanover, N.H., formerly of Newtown, died February 14, surrounded by close family. Mrs Wuerthele was born in Pittsburgh, Penn., on June 28, 1918.

She is survived by her daughters, Lynne Whitacre and Carol Garbarino of Newtown, as well as their spouses; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

While her husband Ernest Wuerthele served during World War II and was stationed largely in Texas, she assisted in the war effort. Later, when her husband was named general manager of IBM, she lived many years in Emsworth, England. Regardless of her location, she passionately pursued her many interests, including ceramics, gardening, painting, bridge, and taking her grandchildren’s money nickel-by-nickel in poker.

A mass was celebrated February 17.

Memorial donations may be made to the Newtown Scholarship Association, PO Box 302, Newtown CT 06470.
