Robert Meyers of Newtown recently was named to the Fairfield University Hall of Fame.

A 1983 graduate of Fairfield, Bob was honored by the Alumni Association for his critical role in club football’s rise to the number one slot in the country.

In his first season, Bob gained 671 on 116 carries with seven touchdowns, second only to his brother, Hall of Famer Tom Meyers. Bob also ranked second on the team with 14 catches for 239 yards, giving him better than 900 total yards for the season.

Bob played both sides of the ball and developed in a highly-regarded defensive back. In gact, he was a first team All-American in 1981 and 1982. During those years, he led the nation in interceptions with 11 and 8, respectively.

Bob was also one of Fairfield’s top kick and punt returners.

He lives with his wife, Bek, and their sons, John and Matthew. A marketing representative with Hann Financial, he was honored during Homecoming Weekend back on Friday, October 27.
