Drug Charges

Police said they made a routine motor vehicle stop for a traffic violation on Philo Curtis Road on the evening of February 19, after which they charged two people in that vehicle with drug violations.

Both of the people are under age 18, so police categorize them as “youthful offenders” whose identities are shielded from disclosure under state law.

Police charged the driver of the vehicle with traveling too fast and with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana. Also, police charged a passenger with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana.

Both youths were released from custody on written promises to appear on March 7 in Danbury Youthful Offender Court.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Nicole Santo, 25, of Watertown went to the police station about 4:30 pm February 18 and was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court, improper use of a marker plate, driving an unregistered vehicle, and failure to have automotive insurance, police said.

Police said they had lodged the three motor vehicle charges against Santo last August 31 on Wasserman Way, after they encountered a disabled vehicle that Santo had been driving.

Following processing on February 18, police released Santo on $200 bail for a March 3 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Evading Responsibility

Police were dispatched to the parking lot of the Blue Colony Diner at 66 Church Hill Road about 7:20 pm February 19 to investigate an incident there.

In the incident, an unknown motorist struck an unspecified vehicle and then left the scene of the collision, police said. Police are investigating and ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them at 203-426-5841.

Town’s End

At about noon on February 17, a 1998 International 4000 SER delivery truck driven by Curtis Heard, 40, of Danbury was backing into a driveway at 2 Town’s End Road where a 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier coupe was parked, police report.

While maneuvering, the International struck the Chevrolet, police said. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Taunton Hill Road

Police report that at about 11:30 am on February 18, Peter Karazulas, 50, of Easton, who was driving a 2000 Mitsubishi heating fuel tanker, was backing up in attempting to make a fuel delivery at a home on Taunton Hill Road, when the Mitsubishi struck an unoccupied 2004 Chevrolet Express van owned by a plumbing/heating company, which was parked facing westward along the eastbound side of the street.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Karazulas a written warning for unsafe backing. Police said they verbally warned Scott Terrill, 41, of Southbury for improperly parking the Chevrolet.

Flagpole Crash

Police report that Patricia Green, 66, of Danbury, who was driving a 2003 Honda Accord sedan about 10 am on February 19, was attempting to turn left from westbound Church Hill Road onto southbound Main Street, when the Honda struck the Main Street flagpole.

Green was not injured. The flagpole was not damaged. Police issued Green a written warning for making an improper turn.

Highway Evading

State police report an accident on Interstate 84 in which the motorist who caused the crash left the scene of the incident without stopping.

State police said a 25-year-old Canton man was driving a 2007 Infiniti M-35 westward on I-84 in the center lane of three lanes, about one-half mile east of Exit 10, at about 7:40 pm on February 18, when the driver of a silver-colored Honda Civic, who had been driving in the right lane, made a lane change and then struck the Infiniti. The Honda driver then drove away.

The Infiniti driver was not injured. State police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact Trooper Andrew Katrenya, III, at 203-267-2200.

Fallen Tree

State police report that motorist Yusuf Whittenburg, 29, of New Milford was driving a 2005 Honda Accord westward in the right lane of two lanes on Interstate 84, about 1,500 feet west of Exit 10, at about 12:18 am February 20, when severe crosswinds in that area caused a tree to fall from the road’s right shoulder and land on the Honda.

Neither Whittenburg, nor a passenger, were injured, state police said.

Truck Vs Wall

Motorist John Looby, 27, of Mahopac, N.Y., was driving a 2006 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck northward on Great Hill Road about noon on February 20, and then attempted to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of Great Hill Road and Taunton Hill Road, police said.

The truck, however, slid on the slippery street and went through the intersection, striking a stone wall, police said.

Looby was not injured. Police said they issued Looby an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

Church Hill Crash

At about 10:53 am on February 21, motorist Robert Iaropoli, 52, of 11 Longview Road, who was driving a 2006 Jeep Wrangler SUV, was exiting a driveway at 65 Church Hill Road, as motorist Mary Navi-Seri, 47, of Danbury was driving a 2004 Mazda 6 sedan westward on Church Hill Road, police said.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Iaropoli a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

River Run DUI

Police said they responded to a report of a disabled vehicle on River Run Road at about 4 pm on February 22. River Run Road is a dead-end street that extends from Turkey Hill Road.

Police said their investigation led them to arrest motorist Mary Bennett, 49, of Shelton on charges of driving under the influence and making a restricted turn.

After processing, police released Bennett on $100 bail for a March 8 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

DUI Incident

Police said that while on patrol about 10:30 am February 22, they stopped motorist Kurt Nacewicz, 20, of 7 Yearling Lane for violating a traffic control signal at the intersection of Church Hill Road and Commerce Road.

After investigating, police said they charged Nacewicz with failure to obey a traffic control signal, driving under the influence, and possession of marijuana.

After processing, police released Nacewicz on $500 bail for a March 8 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Internet Crime

Police report that after learning that they held a warrant for his arrest, Marc Smith, 19, of Hartford turned himself over to police on February 21 and was charged with second-degree breach of peace.

Police said that during August 2010, Smith allegedly posted on the Internet photographs of an unidentified Newtown person which contained nudity.

Following arrest processing, Smith was released on a written promise to appear on March 8 in Danbury Superior Court.
