Castle Hill Crash

Police report a two-car accident on a wet Castle Hill Road, near King Street, about 2:47 pm November 22.

The accident involved motorist Blayne Sapelli, 17, of 10 Hattertown Road, who was driving a 1997 Ford Taurus, and motorist Christine Ash, 58, of Westport, who was driving a 1998 Toyota Camry, police report.

As the Ford was rounding a curve, it went out of control on the wet road, entered the opposite lane and collided with the oncoming Camry, police said.

Sapelli reported thumb pain, and Dan George, 63, of Westport, who was a passenger in the Toyota, reported chest pain, police said. The injured received medical attention, police said.

Police issued Sapelli an infraction ticket for failure to keep to the right on a curve.

Found Goods

Police are holding for safekeeping some items that were found lying on Church Hill Road on November 25. Among those items are a child’s automobile safety seat, a portable baby sleeper, and a bag containing children’s and adult’s clothing.

The owner may claim the items at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 426-5841. Sergeant Darlene Froehlich is in charge of found items.

Moving Violations

About 9:42 pm November 25, police spotted motorist Victor Alvarado, 21, of Danbury driving westward on Mt Pleasant Road and crossing over the road’s centerline, so they stopped Alvarado, who was driving a 2005 Honda Accord, to investigate.

Police charged Alvarado with failure to drive in the established lane, driving while under suspension, and driving without automotive insurance. After processing, police released Alvarado on $60 bail for a December 9 court appearance.

Newtown High School

Police said they went to Newtown High School about 8:15 pm November 26, after receiving a report from high school security staff regarding youths with alcohol at the school.

After investigating the complaint, police charged Sarah Greenfield, 16, of 29 Parmalee Hill Road with possession of marijuana and with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police also charged Cory Regensburger, 18, of 2 Farm Field Ridge Road with possession of alcohol by a minor.

Police said they released both youths into the custody of their parents for December 14 appearances in Danbury Superior Court.

 

Oldsmobile Vs Hydrant

Motorist Mark Verrilli, 40, of Monroe, who was driving a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero southward near 116 South Main Street about 3:45 pm November 19, attempted to avoid colliding with a stopped vehicle that was in front of him, police said. In making the maneuver, the Oldsmobile went off the right side of the street and then struck a stone wall and a fire hydrant, police said.

Verrilli was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Botsford DUI

Motorist Michael Shelby, 48, of Salem, N.Y, who was driving a 2004 GMC Sierra pickup truck about 12:45 am November 26, was traveling eastward near 29 Botsford Hill Road when he accelerated and then lost traction on the dry street, police said.

The truck then fishtailed, crossed into the westbound lane and knocked over a mailbox and struck a large rock. The truck crossed a driveway and then rolled downhill about 150 feet, crossing over a lawn and smashing into a large tree head-on, police said. Shelby was not injured, police said.

Shelby failed field sobriety tests, according to police. He was charged with driving under the influence and with making an improper turn. Police released him on $150 bail for a December 8 court appearance.

Windstar Vs Deer

Motorist Peter Kearney, 40, of 1 Pilgrim Lane was driving a 1998 Ford Windstar minivan southward near 25 Toddy Hill Road about 10:20 pm November 19, when a deer jumped onto the road, resulting in a collision, police report. The minivan carried three passengers, but there were no injuries, police said.

 

Taunton Hill Mishap

Motorist Nicole Naishtut, 19, of Ridgefield, who was driving a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta northeastward near 103 Taunton Hill Road about 7:20 pm November 26, went off the right side of the road and struck an embankment, some rocks, and a tree stump, police said.

Both Naishtut and passenger Steve Prorock, 19, of 3 Webster Place were transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said.

Naishtut received a written warning for making a restricted turn, police said.

Fire Trucks Collide

An accident involving two town-owned fire trucks occurred at a fire call on Boggs Hill Road at about 1:50 pm November 25, police said.

Newtown Hook & Ladder Volunteer Firefighter Justin Moser, 25, of Southbury was backing up a 2001 Pierce Dash aerial fire truck, when the rear end of that truck struck the rear end of a parked Dodgingtown Volunteer Fire Company 1988 Maxim fire truck, police said. The collision caused minor damage to both vehicles, police said. Police took no enforcement action.

Hawleyville Accident

A two-vehicle accident occurred about 5:11 pm November 9 at the intersection of Mt Pleasant Road and Hawleyville Road, police said.

Motorist Christine Marano, 54, of Danbury, who was driving a 1999 Honda Accord, was stopped on westbound Mt Pleasant Road for a red traffic signal at the intersection, when she was struck from behind by westbound motorist Deanna Frank, 61, of New Milford, who was driving a 2000 Ford Explorer, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Frank for following too closely. Police also issued Frank an infraction ticket for driving an unregistered vehicle.

Wet Roads

Police report a two-vehicle collision on wet roads at the intersection of Queen Street and Mile Hill Road about 9:23 pm November 16.

Motorist Robbin Chaber, 47, of 45 Mile Hill Road South, who was driving a 2001 Honda CRV southward on Queen Street, skidded on the wet road and inadvertently entered the intersection, police said. The Honda collided with motorist Nemesio Febo, 64, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 1998 Toyota Corolla westward on Mile Hill Road, police said. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Chaber for traveling too fast for conditions.

Highway Crash

State police report a two-vehicle accident on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 9, about 1:08 pm November 27. There were no injuries.

In the mishap, motorist Stephen Marks, 17, of 3 Sweet Meadow Road, who was driving a 1997 Nissan Maxima, lost control of the auto and struck motorist Jennifer Nugent, 26, of South Boston, Mass., who was driving a 2002 Jeep Liberty, state police report. The impact forced the Jeep onto the highway’s median, state police said.

Off The Road

Motorist Michelle Mazzucco, 24, of Trumbull, who was driving a 1997 Buick Century southward near 11 Mt Pleasant Road about 10:26 pm November 27, became distracted while driving and then drove off the right road shoulder, hitting a mailbox, a utility pole, and a traffic sign, police said.

Mazzucco was not injured, police said. Police said they issued Mazzucco an infraction ticket for violating the “distracted driver” law and also for making a restricted turn.

Evading Responsibility

At about 3:08 pm November 28, motorist Lynn Williams, 50, of 26 Ridge Road, who was driving a 2002 Ford Taurus station wagon, was making a left turn on a green traffic signal from Trades Lane onto eastbound Wasserman Way at Fairfield Hills, police said.

At that time, a white pickup truck that was traveling westward on Wasserman Way drove through a red traffic signal and struck the Ford, police said. The truck then drove away from the accident. Williams was not injured. Police are investigating.

 

Two Charges

On November 28 near Hawley School on Church Hill Road, police stopped motorist Christopher Lewis, 20, of 98 Church Hill Road to investigate. Police charged Lewis with failure to display a front marker plate and with driving while under suspension. Police released Lewis on $110 bail for an upcoming court appearance.

Three Charges

Police said Sarah Lewis, 24, of 4 Shepaug Road took a relative’s motor vehicle without permission on November 29. After Lewis returned home with the vehicle, police charged her with use of a motor vehicle without the owner’s permission, possession of narcotics, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police said they found the drug items during a search. Lewis was scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges, police said.

Five MV Violations

Police report that after an investigation on November 27, they charged a Danbury man with five motor vehicle violations.

Police said they charged Rafael Mendes-Neto, 23, with failure to display a marker plate, driving without automotive insurance, driving an unregistered motor vehicle, driving without a license, and misuse of marker plates.

After posting $500 bail, police released Mendes-Neto for a December 13 court appearance.

DUI Arrest

Police report they received complaints that a motorist was driving erratically on local roads at about 3:40 pm November 29, so they investigated.

Motorist Gerald Maugeri, 56, of Monroe struck a utility pole on Toddy Hill Road, but then kept driving, police said. After searching, police located Maugeri driving on Church Hill Road, where they stopped him to investigate.

After failing field sobriety tests, police arrested Maugeri on charges of driving under the influence and evading responsibility. After posting $250 bail, police released Maugeri for a December 13 court appearance.
