A Death At Garner Prison

State police report the untimely death of an inmate at the state's

high-security Garner Correctional Institution on Nunnawauk Road on June 19.

State police said that inmate Herbert Hermansdorfer, 50, was found to be

unresponsive in his cell about 8:20 pm. A medical team called to the scene

determined Hermansdorfer was dead, state police said.

Hermansdorfer had an extensive history of medical problems, according to state

police. The medical examiner concluded that no foul play was involved in the

death and that Hermansdorfer died of natural causes, state police said.

Hermansdorfer's body was removed from the prison at 2 am June 20 by the

coroner, state police said.
