Quail Hollow

Police learned on the afternoon of October 6 that someone sometime between October 2 and October 5 had illegally entered a house under construction and vandalized it.

The house is located at Lot #4 of the Quail Hollow residential subdivision on the dead-end Quail Hollow Lane extending from Philo Curtis Road in Sandy Hook.

Police are investigating the crime and ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them at 426-5841, or at their tip line at 270-8888.

DUI Arrest

Police report that at about 5:52 pm on October 5, they stopped motorist Kimberly Simmons, 41, of 35 Button Shop Road for a motor vehicle violation near the intersection of Berkshire Road and Oakview Road.

After investigating, police said they charged Simmons with driving under the influence. Police said they also charged her with risk of injury to a minor because she had her three young children as passengers in the vehicle’s back seat.

Additionally, police charged Simmons with driving with a suspended license and with driving with an obscured marker plate.

Following processing, police released her on $100 bail for an October 20 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Hydroplaning Truck

About 7:24 am on October 7, motorist Elise Benedict, 17, of Georges Hill Road stopped at a stop sign at the southern end of Currituck Road and then proceeded southward on Main Street, police said.

As the 1999 Dodge pickup truck that she was driving accelerated, it also started to hydroplane, resulting in the vehicle going out of control and driving off the right side of the street where it collided with bushes and a tree near 65 South Main Street, police said.

Benedict was not injured. Police issued her a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Windstorm

While driving a 2006 Ford Freestyle northward near 183 Hattertown Road during a windstorm on the afternoon of October 7, the high winds caused a tree branch to fall and strike that vehicle driven by Sandra Buscher, 50, of Bethel, police said.

The vehicle’s left exterior rear-view mirror and its hood were damaged by the impact, police report.

Buscher was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

DUI Case

Police report that they received some 911 calls regarding a motorist who was reportedly driving erratically eastward on Mt Pleasant Road at about 6 pm October 9, so they went to the area to investigate the complaints.

Police said they then located the vehicle in question which had pulled into the parking lot of Hot Shots Grille, Restaurant, and Tap Room at 130 Mt Pleasant Road.

Following an investigation, police said the charged motorist James Bixby, 66, of 34 Currituck Road with driving under the influence.

Following processing, police released Bixby from custody on $100 bail for an October 23 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Dispute

A dispute occurred outdoors at the Citgo Friendly Service Station at 151 South Main Street about 10:18 pm October 8, which later resulted in the arrest of two people, according to police.

Police said that Roy Jewett, 38, of Naugatuck, and Cathy Orban, 35, of Waterbury, who are acquaintances, became involved in a dispute outside the gas station/convenience store. Jewett then allegedly broke a window on Orban’s motor vehicle, police said.

A staff member then told the two people that police had been informed of the incident, after which the pair drove away toward Monroe in the damaged vehicle, police said.

Monroe police found the pair in Monroe and turned them over to Newtown police who charged each person with second-degree breech of peace.

Police released Jewett on $500 bail; police released Orban on a written promise to appear in court. Both were slated for October 9 appearances in Danbury Superior Court.

Evading Responsibility

About 9 am on October 3, a two-vehicle collision occurred near 97 South Main Street, after which the unknown offending female motorist illegally drove away from the scene of the crash, according to police.

Police said that a local motorist, who was driving a 1997 Hyundai southward on South Main Street, stopped in preparing to make a left turn into a commercial parking lot.

An unknown southbound female motorist, who was driving a blue/gray-colored sedan, then struck the Hyundai from behind, police said. The unknown female motorist then asked that the Hyundai driver not contact police about the collision, after which she drove away from the scene without providing any required information to the Hyundai driver, police said.

Although damage to the Hyundai was minor, its driver was transported by ambulance volunteers to Danbury Hospital for treatment of head/neck pain, police said.

Police described the driver of the blue/gray-sedan as a white woman in her 60s. Police ask anyone with information on that woman’s identity to contact Officer Dana Schubert at the police station at 426-5841, or tip line 270-8888.

Ford Hits Wall

About 7 am on October 7, motorist Katherine Wiener, 17, of 9 Marlin Road, who was driving a 2002 Ford Taurus sedan northward near 89 South Main Street, was involved in a one-vehicle accident, police report.

Police said Wiener told them that the Ford hydroplaned on the wet road, after which it went off the right road shoulder, struck a guardrail post and then hit a rock wall, causing the vehicle to overturn and come to rest on its right side.

Neither Katherine Wiener, nor passenger Sam Wiener, 16, of the same address, were injured, police said. Hook & Ladder firefighters responded to the accident. Police issued Katherine Wiener an infraction for making a restricted turn.

SUV Vs Deer

About 7:30 pm October 8, motorist Cynthia Campel, 59, of Southbury, who was driving a 1997 Toyota 4-Runner SUV eastward on Wasserman Way, near Fairfield Hills, encountered a deer that had run onto the pavement directly in front of the vehicle, police said. The SUV and deer collided. Campel was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Slippery Street

About 12:12 pm October 3, motorist Angel Guaman, 48, of Danbury, who was driving a 1997 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck southward on Toddy Hill Road, skidded on the wet, leaf-covered pavement as he attempted to make a right turn onto westbound Button Shop Road, according to police.

At that time, motorist Debra Sennefelder, 44, of 11 Pilgrim Lane, who was driving a 2005 Volkswagen Touareg SUV, was stopped at a stop sign on eastbound Button Shop Road and was waiting to make a left turn onto northbound Toddy Hill Road, police report.

The Chevrolet skidded and collided with the Volkswagen as the Chevrolet attempted to make the right turn, police said. There were no injuries. Guaman received a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions, according to police.

I-84 Crash

About 11:40 am October 9, motorist Brigitte Martinez, 49, of Danbury, who was driving a 2006 Subaru on westbound Interstate 84’s Exit 10 on-ramp, lost control of the vehicle on a curve on the wet pavement and then struck some guardrailing, state police said.

Martinez was not injured. State police said they warned Martinez for traveling too fast for conditions.

Interstate Collision

Motorist Brian Gibbons, 27, of Waterbury was driving a 2006 Scion XB in the left lane of three lanes on westbound Interstate 84, east of the Exit 11 off-ramp, at about 10 pm October 9, when the Scion drifted to the left and struck some guardcabling, state police said.

Gibbons was not injured. State police said they issued him an infraction for failure to drive in the established lane.

Highway Accident

State police report that at about 9:17 am on October 8, motorist John Susi, 44, of Southington, who was driving a 1998 Honda westward on Interstate 84, west of the Exit 10 interchange, slowed for traffic conditions, after which the Honda was hit from behind by westbound motorist Vincent Matozzo, 25, of Cheshire, who was driving a 2009 BMW 528-XI.

There were no injuries. State police said that Matozzo was at fault for following too closely.

Echo Valley Road

Police are investigating an incident of criminal mischief in which someone intentionally damaged a curbside residential mailbox on Echo Valley Road.

The vandalism occurred sometime between 10:30 pm on October 9, and 5:30 am on October 10. Police ask anyone with information on the property damage to contact them at the police station at 426-5841, or at 270-8888.

Serenity Lane

About 8:19 pm on October 6, motorist Christopher Veness, 21, of 3 Prospect Terrace, who was driving a 2007 Scion TC coupe westward on Serenity Lane, crossed over onto the street’s opposite travel lane and then drove through the front yard at 8 Serenity Lane, striking a tree and a stone wall before the vehicle came to rest in the driveway, police report.

Veness was not injured. Police said they issued him a misdemeanor summons listing charges of failure to have automotive insurance and failure to drive to the right on a curve.

Road Sign

Police are investigating an incident that occurred at about 2:45 pm October 9, in which an unknown motorist was driving a vehicle westward on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Zoar Road, when the unknown vehicle crossed the road and went off the eastbound road shoulder, striking a state road sign.

The driver then left the scene of the crash. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact Officer Michael McGowan at 426-5841.

Chrysler in Ditch

Motorist Trevor Todd, 17, of 44 Hundred Acres Road was driving a 2003 Chrysler 300-M sedan eastward on Eden Hill Road about 7 pm October 5, when he briefly took his eyes off the road, resulting in the auto going off the right road shoulder and entering a ditch, police said.

Todd was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Saab Vs Lincoln

About 5:36 pm October 7, motorist Kimberly Lydon, 39, of 6 Fawnwood Road, who was driving a 2008 Lincoln MKX, was waiting in line for a red traffic signal on eastbound Church Hill Road at its intersection with Commerce Road, police said.

Eastbound motorist Jeannie Rowan, 49, of 65 Chipmunk Trail, who was driving a 1999 Saab 9-3 hatchback, then struck the rear end of the Lincoln, police report.

There were no injuries. Rowan received a written warning for following too closely, according to police.

Audio Books

Police report that at about 10 am on October 12, a case containing several audio books in the CD format was found on Oakview Road, near Newtown High School. The audio books include titles by Jack London and Tom Clancy.

Police ask that the owner claim the found items at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 426-5841.

Berkshire Collision

About 4:13 pm October 12, motorist Anthony Dinice, 82, of Shelton, who was driving a 2004 Ford Freestar minivan eastward on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Gray’s Plain Road, stopped for traffic conditions, after which the Ford was struck from behind by eastbound motorist Mary Wheelis, 51, of Guilford, who was driving a 1998 Subaru Legacy station wagon, police said.

The Ford carried three passengers and the Subaru carried one passenger. None of those involved in the accident was injured, police said. Sandy Hook firefighters responded to the scene.

Police said they issued Wheelis a written warning for following too closely.
