Radar Patrol

Police report that they were using radar equipment on Hanover Road, near its intersection with Echo Valley Road, to check for speeding motorists at about 8:43 am on March 14, when they found motorist Alfred Thompson, 24, of Bridgeport driving above the speed limit.

Police said they stopped Thompson to investigate and charged him with traveling too fast and with driving with a suspended license.

After processing, police released Thompson on $100 bail for a March 28 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Main Street Accident

About 12:14 pm on March 14, motorist Candace Richardson, 20, of Oxford was driving a 2003 Dodge Neon sedan northward on Main Street, near Edmond Town Hall, and then stopped in preparing to make a left turn, police said.

Northbound motorist Elyse Clark, 42, of Danbury, who was driving a 2007 BMW 750-LI sedan, then struck the rear end of the Dodge, police said.

Richardson and Dodge passenger Ava Santelle, 18, of Trumbull, were transported by ambulance to Danbury Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said. Clark received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, according to police.

 

Library

At about 5 pm on March 14, someone who was driving an unknown vehicle in the rear parking lot at Booth Library at 25 Main Street, struck a parked unoccupied 2006 Honda Civic sedan there, damaging the Honda’s left rear bumper, police report.

The offending driver then left the area without reporting the accident, police said.

Police are investigating the collision and ask anyone with knowledge of the offending driver’s identity to contact them at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

Queen Street

Police said that while on patrol at about 9:27 am on March 14 on Queen Street, near Lorraine Drive, they spotted motorist Roger Eberlin, 41, of 16 Shady Rest Boulevard talking on a handheld cellphone while driving, so they stopped him to investigate.

Police said they charged Eberlin with using a handheld cellphone while driving and with driving under suspension.

Police released Eberlin on $100 bail for a March 28 court appearance.

Multiple Charges

At about 4:39 pm on March 15, police said they stopped motorist Jean-Michel S. Krou, 42, of Bridgeport near 46 Church Hill Road to investigate.

Police said they charged Krou with driving with a suspended vehicle registration, driving without automotive insurance, and driving without a license.

Newtown police said they also learned that Krou was wanted by Fairfield police on a warrant in connection with a 2006 incident in Fairfield. Newtown police said Krou had not appeared in Bridgeport Superior Court on April 10, 2006, in connection with a January 23, 2006, moor vehicle incident in Fairfield.

Krou thus was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court, driving with a suspended license, and failure to display automotive lights.

Police released Krou on $5,000 bail overall for a March 28 appearance in Danbury Superior Court, and also for a March 29 appearance in Bridgeport Superior Court.

South Main Crash

About 2:10 pm on March 11, motorist Rita Millo, 69, of 301 South Main Street, who was driving a 1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass sedan, stopped on southbound South Main Street and was waiting to make a left turn into the driveway leading to her residence, police said.

Southbound motorist Peter Nagy, 52, of 21 Scudder Road, who was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, then struck the rear end of the Oldsmobile, after which the Chevrolet went off the right road shoulder and struck a tree, police said.

There were no injuries. Botsford firefighters and local ambulance volunteers responded to the incident. Police said Nagy received an infraction on charges of failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, making a restricted turn, and distracted driving.

Blow-Out

State police report that motorist Ambica Lal, 24, of Waterbury was driving a 2001 Acura 3.2-L auto eastward on Interstate 84, about 4,000 feet west of Exit 10, at about 6:46 pm on March 12, when Lal lost control of the vehicle, possibly due to a tire blowing out.

Lal was not injured. Enforcement information was not available.

DUI Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, George Burch 25, of 44 Forest Drive turned himself over to police at the police station about 12:16 pm on March 19 and was charged with four offenses in connection with a motor vehicle accident in Sandy Hook last fall, police said.

Police said they charged Burch with driving under the influence, failure to have automotive insurance, failure to drive to the right on a curve, and with driving an unregistered vehicle in connection with a one-car rollover accident that occurred about 6:14 pm last November 8 near 94 Riverside Road.

Police have said that on arriving at the accident scene, they found a Honda auto lying upside down in the middle of the road. Burch apparently had been driving eastward when the vehicle crossed the road’s center line and entered the westbound lane, striking an embankment along the westbound road shoulder, causing the auto to roll over and then skid on its roof for a distance, according to police.

Following that accident, Burch was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police have said.

Following arrest processing on March 19, police released Burch on $250 bail for an April 3 court appearance.

Bus Vs Deer

Police report that Eugene Pepin, 34, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2006 Ford school bus eastward on Sugar Street, near its intersection with Key Rock Road, at about 7 am on March 16, encountered a deer that had run onto the road, resulting in a collision.

Traveling on the MTM Transportation school bus were two passengers — one adult and one child, police said. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Sharp Curve

Motorist Jeffrey Rodriguez-Urena, 22, of Danbury was driving a 1990 Honda Civic coupe eastward near 24 Botsford Hill Road at about 1 am on March 20, when while negotiating a sharp curve to the left, the Honda went off the right side of the road and struck an earthen embankment, police said.

The accident occurred in the area where the Housatonic Railroad overpass crosses above Botsford Hill Road.

Rodriguez-Urena was not injured. Police said they issued him an infraction for making a restricted turn.

 

Exit Ramp

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Wasserman Way and the Exit 11 off-ramp for Interstate 84 at about 3 pm on March 16.

In that incident, the front end of a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV, which was driven by Leann Arsenault, 45, of Southbury, struck the rear end of a 2008 Honda Civic sedan driven by Robin Murdock, 50, of Prospect, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Arsenault for following too closely.

Bus Mishap

Police report that midafternoon on March 21, Sarah Hayes, 22, of 40 Great Hill Road was driving a school bus southward on Farrell Road, near Old Hawleyville Road, when the bus stopped for flaggers who were on duty for a maintenance project.

While then attempting to pass a vehicle that was stopped in the southbound lane, the rear bumper of the bus made contact with some metal guardrailing along the northbound road shoulder, causing minor damage to the bus, police said.

There were two student passengers on the MTM Transportation bus, police said. There were no injuries. The incident is under investigation.

Burglary/Larceny

Sometime overnight on March 20–21, someone used a hand tool to break a large front window at Buzz’s Shell gas station at 286 South Main Street, after which the cash register drawer was stolen from the premises, police said.

Police learned of the incident about 6:40 am on March 21. Police ask anyone with information on the crime to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Thefts From Vehicles

Sometime overnight on March 20–21, someone entered several unlocked vehicles parked on Clearview Drive, Toddy Hill Road, and Deerfield Drive and stole unspecified items of value from within the vehicles, police said.

Items of no value were discarded alongside the road. Police ask anyone with information on the crimes to contact them at 203-426-5841.
