Stefan Toi, Billy Magin and Kate O’Leary of the Brookfield YMCA Mako swim team qualified for the YMCA’s highest-ranked meet in the country and the trio traveled to the University of Maryland and competed against swimmers from YMCAs across the nation.

Toi, 15 of Newtown, qualified for the 50- and 200-meter breaststroke. He bettered his time, coming in with a 35.93 in the 50 (where he dropped half a second) and swam a 2:53.43 in the 200. Stefan coached the Newtown Torpedo summer league and is participating on the Newtown High School swim team as a sophomore this winter.

Magin, 17, of Brookfield, qualified in four events with times surpassing the qualifying criteria by far. O’Leary, 13, of Brookfield, swam in the 50-meter breaststroke and recorded a time of 37.27 (good for 61st).

This talented swimmer managed to get personal bests in all his events. In the 50 meter freestyle he placed 34th with a time of 25.86;100 meter freestyle he placed 32nd with a time of 56.16; and 200 meter freestyle he swam an outstanding 2:07.93. Finally, in the  50 meter butterfly he recorded a 29.25 dropping half a second. Billy coached Brookfield’s Muskrat summer league and this winter will be captain of the Brookfield High School four-time SWC swim champions.
