The Newtown Board of Education is inviting the community to participate in the superintendent search process.

The board is asking community members to attend a focus group to provide input about the strengths, challenges, and leadership qualities desired in the next superintendent. The Community focus group is scheduled for Monday, October 7, at 6:30 pm Newtown High School’s Lecture Hall.

Consultants from CABE (Connecticut Association of Boards of Education) Search Services, an executive educational search firm, who are facilitating the search process, have already met with 100 school staff, senior citizens, clergy and Parent Teacher Orangization (PTO) leadership. In the next two weeks additional focus groups will be held with school staff, parents, students, and town staff/officials, according to the Board of Education. In addition 150 members of the Newtown community have completed the online Superintendent Search Survey available on the district website, www.newtown.k12.ct.us.

The selection of a superintendent of schools is one of the most important responsibilities of a school board. The Board encourages community members to attend the focus group and share thoughts about the qualities and characteristics desired in the next superintendent.

Anyone who is unable to attend the focus group can complete an anonymous online Superintendent Search Survey available at the district website, here, through October 14.
