Americo             Da Mota
Americo âMacâ Da Mota, 80, of Sandy Hook, beloved husband of Mary Alice (Nunes) Da Mota, died surrounded by his loving family, April 9.
Mr Da Mota was born in Ferreiroz do Dao, Portugal, March 18, 1925, a son of the late Joao and Elisa (Antunes) Mota. He attended schools in Portugal and beauty schools here in the United States, to become a hairdresser and educator. He owned and operated the Americoâs Salons in Danbury, Newtown, Bethel, Ridgefield, and New Milford.
From 1960 to 1995, Mr Da Mota the proprietor and instructor of the Americo Academy of Beauty Culture in Danbury. He was a longtime member of the former Sons of Portugal Club and was one of the founders of the Sons of Portugal Scholarship Fund as well as its first Treasurer from 1965 to 1976. He was an honorary member of the Portuguese Cultural Center.
Besides his wife of 50 years, he is survived by two sons, Jeffrey Da Mota of Woodbury, Glenn Da Mota and wife, Margie, of Bethel; a daughter, Gail Da Mota of Alexandria, Va.; a grandson, Brennan Da Mota of Bethel; a brother, Ray Mota and wife, Elsie, of Boynton Beach, Fla.; a sister, Adelina Mota of Danbury; and a brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Lydia Nunes, and Lourdes Almeida, all of Danbury. He was predeceased by two sisters, Cesaltina Amaral and Maria Martins.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St Peter Church on April 13.
Burial was in St Peter Cemetery.
