The Newtown Lions Club Duck Race Committee recently met to sort through the hundreds of rubber ducks that will make up the flock for The 15th Annual Great Pootatuck Duck Race.

This year’s big event will take place Saturday, May 23, at the park in Sandy Hook Center, 5 Glen Road.

Splashdown will be at 2:30 pm, but there are many events scheduled during the day, beginning at 10 am and continuing right up until the duck are put into the water.

The top four prizes this year are a $2,000 check; a weekend getaway worth $600; a Porco Karate Academy gift certificate worth $450; and an Xbox One game system. There are 16 other prizes to be awarded as well.

Tickets remain $5 each, and are available at a number of locations around town.

In addition, members of the club will be selling tickets on Friday, May 15, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, at Carminuccio’s Pizza (76 South Main Street), Hawleyville Liquor Store (23 Barnabas Road, within Hawleyville Plaza), and Stop and Shop (228 South Main Street, within Sand Hill Plaza);  Saturday, May 16, from 9 am until 1 pm, at Newtown Hardware (61 Church Hill Road), Salon Michele (6 Queen Street, within Newtown Shopping Center), and Bagel Delight (30 Church Hill Road); and Sunday, May 17, from 2 to 4 pm, at Yankee Discount Wine & Liquor (6 Queen Street, within Newtown Shopping Center).

Remaining tickets will also be sold on the day of the race.
