That Amazing Traffic Guard

To the Editor:

As one who travels Berkshire Road (Route 34) from Sandy Hook and through to Derby at 7:20 in the morning, I can only say how amazed I am with the high school’s traffic guard.

In years past, the backups would almost reach the 84 overpass near Sandy Hook Center and extend beyond the curve east of Lone Oak Road. This year, most days I begin to stop just west of the “Tool House,” and as I pass east on 34, the cars are typically backed up just beyond the deli. To the guard: I don’t know how you do it, but thank you. Yes, my passengers may complain when you stop my car just before the high school but we all relax when you smile and raise your arms, as if to say, “I had to stop someone.” You deserve a hearty pat on the back for your work.

Cheers,
