Senior services for Newtown seniors are available at the Multipurpose Building on Riverside Road in Sandy Hook. The Senior Center is under the auspices of the Commission on Aging. The center is run by Senior Services Director Marilyn Place. For information about programs offered, call 203-270-4310.
You may drop in at the Senior Center weekdays between 9 am and 4 pm. A hot meal is served at noon, for which you must reserve three days in advance.
Newtown has daily door-to-door minibus service Monday through Friday. Buses also run all day from the Senior Center to Sand Hill Plaza. On Fridays, the bus alternates between rides to Danbury Fair Mall and Berkshire Plaza in Danbury (to Walmart Route 6). Cost is $1 each way for the Sand Hill Plaza trip. *Because of the Harvest Bazaar, there are no classes on November 8 and 9.
*Annual Harvest Bazaar open house preview is Thursday, November 8, 5 to 7 pm. Regular hours are November 9, 9 am to 5 pm; November 10, 9 am to 4 pm; and November 11, 9 am to noon. Come do some early holiday shopping. Included will be handmade jewelry, quilted tote bags, afghans and quilts, children and infant hats, mittens and scarves, ruffled scarves, holiday ornaments and decorations, handmade iris fold cards and embroidered cards, holiday wreaths, small white elephant table, baked goods, and an array of other goodies.
*The center will be closed on Monday, November 12, in honor of Veterans Day.
*Bingo will be Wednesday, November 14, at 1 pm.
*âStress Management for Grandparents Raising Grandchildrenâ program, sponsored by Bethel Health Care, will be given by Diane Johnson, RN, director of nurses, for part-time or full-time caregivers of their grandchildren on Thursday, November 15, at 1 pm.
*The Inn at Villa Biancaâs annual Thanksgiving celebration is Wednesday, November 16, 10:30 am to 2 pm. All you can eat family-style luncheon and entertainment for $29.95. The van can accommodate 16 and will depart at 10:30 am, but you are welcome to carpool.

Upcoming Programs
*Bakers Wanted! A bake sale will be on the third Monday of the month from 9 to 10 am. Bring donations of baked goods in before that time.
*The center will be closed November 22 and 23 in observance of Thanksgiving.
*Come listen to a wide variety of classic songs and all-time favorites with Sharpe and Flats on Thursday, November 29, at 1 pm. Space is limited; call to reserve a seat.
*Holiday cookie swap and contest on Friday, December 6, at 1 pm. Bring in two-dozen baked cookies, along with your recipe. Recipe cards will be saved for a future Senior Center Recipe Book Fundraiser. Sample and share with those participating. There will be two winners with prizes. Bring a tin to take some home. Call the center to be a part of this.
Day Trips
*Depart on Thursday, December 6, for the Huke Lau Restaurant and Dinner Theater in Chicopee, Mass. Christmas songs and traditional Hawaiian Christmas dances by Polynesian dancers will be performed during the luncheon. After the show depart to the Christmas Tree Shop and then to Springfield for the lighting display at âBright Nightâ at Forest Park. Cost is $71.
*Holiday Party, Tuesday, December 11, 11 am to 3 pm, at Capellaroâs. On the agenda is a gourmet buffet, 50/50 raffle and regular raffles, and music by Vinnie Carr. Cost is $35. Call for reservations now. No classes on the day of the holiday party.
