Be Tick Aware As You Start Outdoor Clean Up (Or Play)

According to Health District Director Donna Culbert, Newtown has the highest incidence of tick-borne disease in Fairfield County. Even now during late winter, homeowners are reminded of the following:

*Ticks will become active as soon as the temperature rises.

*50-degree days will produce ticks seeking a blood meal.

*Many homeowners focus spring cleanup efforts in tick-infested areas (leaves, stone walls, yard edges, ground cover, etc).

*Always wear protective clothing.

*Using repellent helps minimize exposure to tick-borne illness.

*Always check for ticks on your clothes and the body — and on children or pets after being outdoors.
