Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Meghan DeMaille, 24, of Stratford turned herself over to police on the morning of June 19.

Police said DeMaille had failed to respond to past motor vehicle violations against her. Police charged DeMaille with failure to respond to an infraction, a parking violation, and failure to renew a driver’s license.

After processing the case, police released DeMaille on a $97 bond for a July 8 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

 

Pole Bridge Crash

Motorist Christopher Thibdeau, 18, of 56 Jeremiah Road was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Prizm eastward on Pole Bridge Road about 7:40 am June 18, when while negotiating a curve, he swerved to avoid road debris and lost control of the auto, striking a utility pole, police said.

Thibdeau was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for making an improper turn.

Audi Collision

Motorist Andrew Lambo, 17, of 8 Country Squire Road was driving a 1987 Audi 5000 sedan southward on Philo Curtis Road near Pearl Street about 11 am June 19, when while negotiating a curve, Lambo swerved and struck curbing along the northbound road shoulder, police said.

Lambo was not injured. Police issued him an infraction ticket for failure to drive to the right on a curve.

Baseball Bat

About 2 pm on June 19, a person turned over to police for safekeeping an aluminum baseball bat, which was found at the soccer field at Fairfield Hills. The Rawlings-brand bat has the name “Jack W” written on it. The owner should contact police at 3 Main Street to claim the bat.

Violations

Motorist Peter Cekanauskas, 49, of 87 Berkshire Road was spotted driving with an expired registration sticker on his rear marker plate on the morning of June 22 on Queen Street, according to police.

Police stopped Cekanauskas to investigate and charged him with driving an unregistered vehicle, driving under suspension, failure to carry an automotive insurance card, and possession of less than four ounces of marijuana.

Police said they held Cekanauskas on bond for a June 23 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

 

Chain Saw Theft

On June 21, a Castle Hill Road man reported to police that two chain saws were stolen from his property sometime before June 7. The missing saws are a Stihl 02800 Super and a Husqvarna 288.

Police ask anyone who knows the circumstances of the saws’ disappearance to contact them at 426-5841.

DUI Charge

Police report that early on the morning of June 21, they spotted motorist Christina Feola, 18, of 115 Currituck Road driving erratically westward on Church Hill Road. Police said they stopped the vehicle to investigate and charged Feola with driving under the influence, driving under suspension, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police said they released Feola on a $100 bond into the custody of her father for a July 3 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

DUI Arrest

Responding to a telephone complaint on June 21, police found and stopped a vehicle driven by Marina Lapina, 39, of 143 Hattertown Road, after observing it make several lane violations along Mt Pleasant Road.

Police said they investigated and charged Lapina with driving under the influence and failure to drive to the right. Police released Lapina on a $100 bond for a July 3 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Two-Car Crash

A two-car accident occurred at the intersection of Currituck Road and Signal Post Road about 2:40 pm June 21, police report.

The crash involved a 1991 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Steven Smith, 36, of 134-A Currituck Road and a 1987 Chevrolet station wagon driven by Claudia Mitchell, 57, of 8 Budd Drive, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Smith a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Hawleyville Accident

About 3 pm June 22, a two-vehicle accident occurred on southbound Hawleyville Road at its intersection with Mt Pleasant Road, police said.

Motorist E.L. Cripe, 53, of Southbury, who was driving a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee, struck the rear end of a 2001 Ford Windstar driven by Debra Pollack, 38, of 26 Plumtrees Road, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Cripe a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Sandy Hook MVA

Police report a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 34 and Toddy Hill Road about 12:30 pm June 22.

The front end of a 1994 Nissan Sentra driven by Java Giovanay, 18, of East Haven, hit the rear end of a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero driven by Christine Zaniewski, 18, of Ansonia, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Giovanay an infraction ticket on charges of failure to drive a reasonable distance apart and driving without a license.

Church Hill Collision

An accident occurred on westbound Church Hill Road near Commerce Road about 2 pm June 22.

Motorist Chris Marchetti, 24, of Bethel, who was driving a 1994 Mazda coupe, struck the rear end of a 2001 Honda CRV driven by Jay Willie, 45, of 53 Butterfield Road, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said Marchetti failed to drive a reasonable distance apart and failed to carry automotive insurance.

Taunton Stone Wall

Motorist Hadrian Kim, 16, of Echo Valley Road was driving a 1986 Honda Prelude northward near 89 Taunton Hill Road at about 3:10 pm June 18, when the Honda went out of control on the wet road and struck a stone wall, police said. Kim was not injured. Police issued Kim an infraction ticket for making a restricted turn.

Glover Avenue

Police report a three-car accident on Glover Avenue about 7:50 pm June 18.

 Eastbound motorist Joan Crick, 70, of 7 Glover Avenue, who was driving a 1997 Honda Accord, stopped to turn left into the driveway at 7 Glover Avenue, police said.

 Eastbound motorist Amanda Caposella, 17, of 14 Poverty Hollow Road, who was driving a 1990 Nissan Maxima, stopped behind the Honda, police said.

Eastbound motorist Micah Bruccoleri, 18, of 11 Palestine Road, who was driving a 1992 Mazda Protégé, then struck the other two vehicles from behind, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Bruccoleri an infraction ticket for following too closely.

Sandy Hook Crash

Police report a three-vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 34 and Toddy Hill Road about 2 pm June 21.

The accident involved motorist Patricia Prokop, 63, of New Milford, who was driving a 1993 Toyota Camry; motorist Joseph Urcivoli, 18, of 2 Fawnwood Road, who was driving a 1991 Ford Taurus, and motorist Keith Whitaker, 39, of 75 Alder Lane, who was driving a 2000 Ford Expedition. There were no injuries.

Police said they issued Prokop an infraction ticket on charges of following too closely and failure to carry automotive insurance/registration. Police issued Urcivoli a written warning for failure to carry an automotive insurance identification card.

 

Violations

On June 23, police charged Barbara Bellemare, 37, of Waterbury with improper parking and driving under suspension. Police released her on a promise to appear July 8 in Danbury Superior Court.

Evading Responsibility

About 4 pm June 19 at the intersection of Glover Avenue and Main Street, a female teenage motorist, who was driving a tan Honda, cut off and then collided with a 1998 Ford station wagon driven by John Urso, 41, of Shelton, police said. There were no injuries. The Honda then drove northward on Main Street. The Honda should have a damaged rear passenger side. Police are investigating.

South Main Crash

Motorist Kathleen Quinn, 53, of 17 Scudder Road, who was driving a 1996 Honda Accord northward on South Main Street about 4:30 pm June 19, stopped to make a left turn onto Borough Lane and was struck from behind by motorist Jessica Friedman, 17, of 8 Harvest Common Road, who was driving a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Friedman an infraction ticket for following too closely.

Church Hill Incident

Police said they learned at about 4:30 pm June 23 that a man had pumped gasoline into his vehicle at the Shell gas station on Church Hill Road and then left without paying for it. The man was then involved in an auto accident in front of the gas station, from which he also fled, police said.

Police said they located the offender about 10:45 pm. Police charged Larry Colangelo, 27, of Oakville with evading responsibility, driving without automotive insurance, and sixth degree larceny. Colangelo is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court July 8 to answer the charges.

Threatening

At 11 am on June 18, a student’s yearbook at Newtown Middle School on Queen Street was reported missing.

The yearbook turned up later that day, but it contained a threatening note to a family member of the student who owns the book, police report.

Police then investigated and charged a student at the school with second degree threatening. The identity of the person, who is under age 16, is shielded by state law.

The youth is scheduled to appear in Danbury Juvenile Court on August 4 to answer the charge.

Truck Into Pole

Motorist Richard Bretton, 42, of 10 Blue Spruce Drive was driving a 1993 Ford F-150 pickup truck westward on Currituck Road, near Tunnel Road, about 10 pm June 22, when the vehicle veered off the left road shoulder and struck a utility pole, police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps treated Bretton and passenger Anthony Ortiz, 35, of Bridgeport at the scene for injuries, but both men refused further treatment, police said.

Police said the accident is under investigation.

Boggs Hill Deer

Motorist Penelope Brown, 43, of 19 Sand Hill Road, who was driving a 2001 Dodge Caravan, was traveling northward on Boggs Hill Road, north of Head O’ Meadow School, about 10:30 am June 24, when a deer jumped out of the woods, police said. The minivan and the deer collided and then the deer ran back into the woods. Brown was not injured.

South Main Accident

Motorist Stephen Allen, 45, of Wallingford, who was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Malibu southward near 151 South Main Street about 1:45 pm June 24, struck a stopped southbound 2001 Hyundai Accent driven by Helene Piller, 89, of 9 Sugar Street, pushing the Hyundai forward into a stopped southbound 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan driven by Nicholas Ferrara, 63, of North Haven, police said. The Hyundai and Dodge had been stopped for traffic.

There were no injuries. Police gave Allen an infraction ticket for following too closely.

Wasserman Way

Police report a two-vehicle collision on Wasserman Way about 12:40 pm June 18.

Police said westbound motorist Reiner Pister, 47, of 12 Echo Valley Road, who was driving a 2001 Dodge sport-utility vehicle, crossed over the road’s double-yellow centerline and attempted to pass a westbound 1986 Volvo 740 sedan driven by Adam Miller, 16, of 11 Saddle Ridge Road. The Volvo carried four passengers.

As the Dodge attempted to pass the Volvo, the vehicles collided, police said. There were no injuries.

On investigating, police issued Pister an infraction ticket on charges of failure to drive to the right, unsafe passing, and passing in no-passing zone

Breach

Police said they learned of a verbal confrontation between two people at Sand Hill Plaza on South Main Street about 8 pm June 25.

As a result of the incident, police charged Hunter Geslien, 26, of Monroe with second degree breach of peace. Police released Geslien on a promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court on July 15.

Lighting Fixture

Police said they learned June 23 that a resident recently found a package containing a lighting fixture for wall mounting, while he was walking in a wooded area off Newbury Road.

 The owner of the item should contact police at 426-5841 to claim it.

Equalizer

On June 23, a stereo equalizer was found near Edgewood Drive. Police ask that the owner contact them at 3 Main Street to claim the electronic device.
