Newtown High School has scheduled an orientation night for eighth grade students and parents for Wednesday, February 12, at 7 pm, starting in the NHS auditorium.

Attendees are invited to arrive early to take tours of the school. The NHS HAWKS Honor Society members will be available to give tours of the building beginning at 5:30 pm. Attendees are asked to allow at least 45 minutes for a tour.

Beginning at 7, NHS Freshmen School Counselors and the director of school counseling will provide an overview of the course selection process, the NHS schedule, and the transition from eighth to ninth grade.  Administrators, department chairs, and the high school’s athletic director will also share information about opportunities, course offerings, and ninth grade expectations at NHS. 

The course recommendations made by Newtown Middle School teachers will be on the attending student’s Powerschool Parent Portal.  The criteria used to make recommendations is available on the NMS website, (newtown.nms.schooldesk.net).

To further help with the transition from middle school to high school, the freshmen counselors will be at the middle school in March. Students will be assigned a time for individual meetings to request their ninth grade courses.
