Beverly L. Gaydos

Beverly L. Gaydos, 65, of Bridgeport, wife of Edward Gaydos, died July 21 in

St Vincent's Medical Center. She was the sister of Connie Caruso of Newtown.

Born in Delmar, Md., the daughter of the late Howard and Rachel (Cordrey)

Taylor, she was a former resident of Fairfield for five years, and was a

current resident of Bridgeport for over 40 years. She was a retired sales lady

for Michael's Jewelers, where she had worked for over 18 years.

Survivors, in addition to her husband and sister, include a son, Keith Gaydos

of West Haven; a daughter, Cindy Savoie of Shelton; two granddaughters, Janine

and Leigh; two brothers, Gerald and Charlton Taylor, both of Colorado; another

sister, Ann Linn Kshimetski of Pasadena, Md; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Linda Rende.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 24, at 10 am in the funeral

home with the Rev Kun Sam Cho, pastor of the Huntington United Methodist

Church, officiating. Interment will be in Mountain Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call on Friday, July 23, from 5 to 8 pm, in the Commerce Hill

Funeral Home, 4798 Main Street, Bridgeport, on the Trumbull line.

Mary Buhan Jontos

Mary Buhan Jontos, 87, of Fairfield, died July 20 in her home. Mrs Jontos was

the wife of the late Robert J. Jontos, Sr, and the sister of Kitty DeCesare of

Newtown.

She was born in Windburn, Penn., and was a Fairfield area resident most of her

life.

In addition to her sister, she is survived by one son, Robert J. Jontos, Jr,

of Stratford; another sister, Barbara Kruidenier of Miami Beach, Fla.; two

granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, July 24, at 10 am in the United Church

of Christ, North Avenue, Bridgeport, with the Rev Betsy Reed officiating.

Burial will be in Mountain Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call on Friday, July 23, from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm in the

Larson Funeral Home, 2496 North Avenue, Bridgeport.

Memorial donations may be made to the United Church of Christ, 2200 North

Avenue, Bridgeport, CT 06604.

Melissa J. Rodriguez

Melissa J. Rodriguez, a 1995 graduate of Newtown High School, was killed in a

car accident eight miles from Flagstaff, Arizona, on Tuesday, July 20, at

approximately 8:30 pm Mountain time, while traveling with a friend.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, a car in which Ms

Rodriguez was a passenger vered off the road while heading south on US 89 and

collided with a tree. Although seat belts were reportedly utilized, Ms

Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene from head injuries sustained in the

accident. The driver of the car is reported to be in a Flagstaff hospital.

Ms Rodriguez graduated from Lehigh University this past spring with a degree

in psychology. She was a gifted musician, who excelled at playing the flute,

both for the Lehigh marching band and for the Newtown High School Symphonic

Band.

Ms Rodriguez, daughter of James and Carol (Quinn) Rodriguez of 55 The

Boulevard, was dearly loved by her friends. "She was just such a good person,"

a close friend said.

She was 22.

Funeral services will be announced by the Honan Funeral Home, on 58 Main

Street in Newtown.

Anita M. O'Neil

Anita M. O'Neil, 83, wife of the late Owen O'Neil of John Beach Road, Newtown,

died July 20 in Ashlar of Newtown.

Born in Winsted on June 7, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Walter and

Anna Coffill. A resident of Newtown the past 23 years, she had previously

lived in Monroe for 28 years.

She was a member of the Eastern Star in Torrington.

She is survived by a daughter, Carol Girard of Newtown; two grandchildren,

Trina Johnson and Matthew Girard; and one great-granddaughter, Cassie Johnson.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Contributions in her memory may be made to Connecticut Hospice, 30 Steven

Street, Norwalk, CT 06854.

Arrangements are by the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.

Robert R. Jablonsky

Robert Rudolph Jablonsky, 63, of Southbury, died July 20 at his home.

Born in Bridgeport June 2, 1936, he was employed as a teacher in the

Connecticut educational system.

He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Newtown.

He is survived by a daughter, Mary (Jablonsky) Rawlins of Denver, Colo.; two

sons, David Jablonsky of Wilmington, Del. and Douglas Jablonsky of Richmond,

Va.; two sisters, Gladys Ferik and Joyce Roman, both of Trumbull; four nieces

and nephews; and his companion, Kris Benton.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 23 at 2 pm at Trinity Episcopal

Church, Main Street, Newtown, with the Rev Kathleen Adams-Shepherd

officiating. Burial will be at Long Hill Cemetery, Trumbull.

Calling hours were scheduled at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street,

Newtown, on Thursday, July 22, from 6 to 9 pm.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 40

North Street, Danbury, CT 06810.

Jean A. Bell

Jean (Agor) Bell, 71, died at home with her family at her side on July 15.

She resided at the home of her daughter, Barbara Field, in Sandy Hook.

Mrs Bell was the daughter of the late Neva and Kelsie Agor, who owned and

operated Agor Brothers General store in Mahopac Falls, N.Y. She graduated

valedictorian from Mahopac High School in 1945 and attended Syracuse

University.

As an Air Force wife, she traveled extensively overseas and in the United

States. She was an avid reader and a recently published writer in the

publication Taproot. She was a member of the Audubon Society and an activist

who pursued concerns for dolphins and eagles. She retired from AT&T in 1991

and moved to her daughter's home.

In addition to her daughter, she is survived by another daughter, Caryn

Schutzler of Seattle, Wash., and several nephews, nieces and cousins.

A service for close family and friends will take place on Friday, July 23 at

11:30 am at Trinity Episcopal Church, 36 Main Street, Newtown.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Regional Hospice of Western

Philip D. Pelletier

Philip Daniel Pelletier, 69, died July 14 in Caribou, Me. He was the father of

Patty Matlyak of Sandy Hook.

He was born in Limestone, June 27, 1930, the son of Antonio and Catherine

(Parent) Pelletier. He was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School Class

of 1948. He married Jeannette "Jean" (Theriault) Pelletier in Limestone on

November 6, 1950. They made their home in Milford for 47 years, during which

time Mr Pelletier was employed at US Motors and Eldorado Tool of Milford,

retiring in 1997. They moved back to Caribou in 1997.

Mr Pelletier was an avid horseshoe pitcher and enjoyed bowling. His favorite

hobby was woodworking. He was a member of Saint Mary Catholic Church in

Milford and the Holy Rosary Catholic Church of Caribou.

Surviving, in addition to his wife and daughter, are two other daughters, Pam

Peate of Milford and Terry Skinner of Orange; three sisters, Ernestine Sherman

of Milford, Annette Oakes of Bristol, and Catherine Gordon of Bangor; and

three grandchildren, Michelle, Brian, and Jennifer Skinner, all of Orange.

Funeral services were held on July 17 at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with

the Rev Leopold Nicknair, pastor, officiating, with a Mass of Christian

Burial. Interment was in the Old Holy Rosary Cemetery, Caribou.

Contributions in his memory may be made through the Cary Medical Center

Oncology Clinic, Van Buren Road, Caribou, ME, or to Hospice of Aroostook, PO

Box 688, Caribou, ME 04736.

The Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou, was in charge of

arrangements.

Susan S. Scalzo

Susan S. Scalzo, 59, of Thousand Oaks, Calif., formerly of Newtown and

Danbury, died at Los Robles Medical Center in Thousand Oaks on July 13.

She was born in Omaha, Neb., April 4, 1940, daughter of the late John T. and

Catherine (Holland) Swift. She attended schools in Nebraska and received her

bachelor of arts degree in nursing from California State University, Dominques

Hills. She was a registered surgical nurse and had worked at Los Robles

Medical Center for approximately 20 years. Prior to her moving to California,

she had worked as a surgical nurse at New York and New Haven hospitals.

Mrs Scalzo is survived by two sons, Jonathan Scalzo of Danbury and Jason

Scalzo of New Milford; a daughter, Samantha Scalzo of New Milford; and two

grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Gregory the Great Church

on Friday, July 23, at 10 am. Burial will follow in St Peter Cemetery.

Calling hours were scheduled at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street,

Danbury, on Thursday, July 22, from 6 to 9 pm.
