A Cloudy Day Filled With Sunshine

To the Editor:

This past Thursday, September 9, Newtown Savings Bank volunteered for United Way of Northern Fairfield County’s 10th Annual Day of Caring Program. This National United Way program, targeting community involvement, matches corporate and other volunteer efforts with needs of agencies such as Newtown Youth Services, Inc. These efforts are meant to serve not-for-profit agency project requests but primarily what matters is how it engages dedicated volunteers within their communities.

It is a wonderful way for volunteers to see the agencies first hand, and where United Way dollars are put to work. A fabulous benefit of this program is the encouraged sense of community and belonging amongst the business and the service provider worlds within their respective communities.

We realize Newtown Savings Bank’s commitment to support the needs of children and families living in Newtown. And for this we at Newtown Youth Services are especially grateful that we were matched together for this celebrated Day of Caring. Newtown Youth Services believes that Newtown Savings Bank shares a special interest in our efforts for Newtown youth and families. This endeavor helps to strengthen our relationship in serving Newtown.

On such a bleak and cloudy day, the 18 volunteers of Newtown Savings Bank radiated with a joy that only a dedicated individual could demonstrate. Imagine looking at your list of to dos on a rainy day and seeing power washing, weeding, and window washing! This didn’t stop them, no siree. They did all of the above as well as painted, organized, cleaned, set up files, and an assortment of other tasks that will help Newtown Youth Services create a more comfortable surrounding and “homey” setting for our youth and families. During a break, the volunteers heard a presentation on Newtown Youth Services, they ate lunch, and without missing a stitch of time they put their dedication right back to work.

We are aware that it is essential we cultivate the interest of concerned community members like Newtown Savings Bank. It is indeed the volition of our collective community that will raise the quality of life for our Newtown children and families. On behalf of Newtown Youth Services, our Board of Directors, all of our staff, and participants, Thank You, Newtown Savings Bank, for your commitment to United Way’s Day of Caring and for all of your volunteers’ hard work. It ended up being a day filled with sunshine!

Sincerely,

Anthony J. Tozzi, Executive Director
