Local Girl Scouts Collecting For 'Bedtime Bundles'
Newtown Girl Scout Troop 50859 members Maria Ringes and Diana Kirkman, both students at Immaculate High School, are hoping to provide “Bedtime Bundles” for children who stay overnight at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital.
The collection is the girls’ Silver Award project. They chose to do this project because they feel sleeping in a hospital can be a scary experience, but both girls say they hope the Bedtime Bundles will bring comfort to the recipients.
To create the Bedtime Bundles, Marie and Diana are collecting new items for children that Yale New Haven Hospital suggested for five different age groups, ranging from infants to teenagers.
Maria and Diana have decided to label tags and hang them on a tree so an assortment of items would be collected. The tags will be available on a small tree in the vestibule of St Rose of Lima Church from August 31 to September 6. The tags explain which item or item is needed for a Bedtime Bundle.
Collection bins will be put in the vestibule for the donated items starting on September 7 and ending on September 13.
The scouts also say they are in need of fleece material to make blankets to be included in the bundles.
Once the items are collected, the girls will create the Bedtime Bundles to be delivered to the hospital by the end of September.
