Teams can register to take part in the obstacle course, and can only include NHS students and Newtown Public Schools faculty and staff, and Board of Education members. Spectator viewing is open to community members.

Tickets to attend the event will be available at the door. Tickets can also be purchased in advance online at

There is a suggested donation values for ticket entry fees of $5 for adults, $3 for students, and children 6 and under are free.

The event will have teams of four to eight members tackling obstacles that test mental, physical, and creative abilities. The Nighthawks Challenge will include 12 obstacles, from running through an inflatable obstacle course to playing kazoos.

The event came together after brainstorming between Interim Superintendent of Schools Dr Lorrie Rodrigue and two PTSA student representatives, Sara Kennedy and Greg Brisett.

Money raised from the event will go to a charitable cause or school improvement that NHS students will vote on.

School improvement projects may be things like supporting the school's Best Buddies Club, installing a water bottle refilling station, or to increase funding for NHS PTSA Seniors College Scholarship and Teacher Grant Programs.

The purpose of the Nighthawks Challenge goes beyond being a fundraiser: It is an event to reinforce and enhance the inclusiveness of the school's community while placing value on collective strengths and differences of the team members.

The Nighthawks Challenge Committee Chairs are Cody Foss, Kathy Cuomo, and Director of Athletics Matt Memoli.

The charge to register is $10 per team member, through February 26. Registration information is available in the NHS Main Office or
