Newtown Woman Charged

In Connection With Infant’s Death

EASTON — Easton police have charged a Newtown woman with a felony in connection with the death of an infant last summer at an Easton home.

Easton police said they charged Daryle Adams, 26, of 26 Buttonball Drive, Newtown, last week with risk of injury to children in connection with the untimely death of 7-month-old Nathaniel Dickinson, which occurred August 5 at his home at 14 Morehouse Road, Easton.

Additionally, police charged Ashby Dickinson, 36, of 14 Morehouse Road with risk of injury to children. Ms Dickinson was Nathaniel’s mother.

Also, police charged Charlene Ashby, 60, of 14 Morehouse Road, who is Ms Dickinson’s mother, with second-degree hindering prosecution, and also with tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.

All three women appeared at the Easton Police Department last week where police arrested them on warrants, after which they were released from custody on written promises to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court.

Ms Adams is scheduled to appear in court on November 28, with the others slated to appear on November 21.

An autopsy performed at the chief state medical examiner’s facility in Farmington has listed the manner of the infant’s death as “undetermined,” according to police.

Police allege that Ms Dickinson and Ms Adams, who are friends, had used alcohol and cocaine at the residence on the evening of August 4 and the early morning hours of August 5, and then left the residence in the early morning, leaving Nathaniel and Ms Adams’ 5-month-old daughter unattended there.

Police and ambulance personnel responded to a 911 emergency call from Ms Ashby at 8:28 am August 5, in which she reported to them that Nathaniel was not breathing. The infant was transported to Bridgeport Hospital by emergency personnel and was pronounced dead at 9:32 am, according to police.

Police allege that before they arrived at the emergency, Ms Ashby had removed pertinent evidence in the case from the area where the unresponsive infant had been located, placing those items in a washing machine and a waste basket.
